Job Description This role focuses on installing and wiring low-voltage electrical systems and mechanical equipment on truck bodies, including dump bodies, plows, and ice management systems. You will work with automotive-style electrical circuits, hydraulic systems, and custom metal fabrication to integrate and support the operation of specialized truck equipment in a busy shop environment. Responsibilities Install wiring for low-voltage electrical systems that operate lighting and equipment on truck bodies. Set up and connect automotive-style circuits, including emergency lighting, relays, fusing, and associated components. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings to complete wiring and mechanical installations accurately. Perform wire testing, troubleshooting, and wire management to ensure reliable operation and clean, organized installations. Install and integrate two-way radios and other auxiliary electronic equipment as required. Assist with installing dump bodies, plow mounts, plow equipment, and ice management equipment onto truck bodies. Perform mechanical assembly of subassemblies and components prior to installation on equipment and truck bodies. Work in the Heavy Bay to fabricate metal components using manual brake presses, punch presses, ironworkers, saws, drills, and plasma cutters. Install hydraulic systems that operate dump bodies, plows, and ice management equipment, including hoses, fittings, and related components. Use appropriate tools, including large wrenches and sockets suitable for diesel and heavy hydraulic fittings, to complete installations. Perform welding tasks as part of mechanical assembly and fabrication work when required. Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the shop environment. Collaborate with other team members in the shop to complete projects efficiently and on schedule. Use hand tools, air tools, power tools, and battery tools to perform mechanical and electrical installation tasks. Conduct basic troubleshooting and maintenance repair on installed systems to ensure proper operation. Essential Skills Experience wiring low-voltage systems to control equipment, including automotive-style electrical systems and/or control panels. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings. Knowledge of 12V automotive electrical systems, including circuits, lighting (including emergency lighting), relays, fusing and amperage ratings, wire gauge ratings, and wire management. Ability to perform wire testing, troubleshooting, and custom fabrication for component mounting. 1+ year of mechanical assembly or installation experience. 1+ year of welding experience (does not need to be production or regular welding). 1+ year of hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical assembly or installation experience. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with hand and power tools. Strong attendance and reliability. Positive attitude and willingness to learn and collaborate. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with car alarms or remote start systems is a plus. Experience installing or working with two-way radios is beneficial. Experience in automotive electrical systems or related fields is advantageous. Experience with diesel mechanic tools, especially larger wrench and socket sizes, is helpful for hydraulic installations. Familiarity with welding, installation assembly, mechanical assembly, electrical installation, and blueprint reading. Ability to fabricate metal using manual brake presses, punch presses, ironworkers, saws, drills, and plasma cutters. Ownership of a rolling toolbox with a basic mechanics tool set, including sockets, wrenches, hand tools, and basic air, power, and battery tools. Work Environment This role is based in a shop environment where diesel trucks regularly drive in and out, so you can expect some exposure to fumes. Approximately 20 technicians work in the shop at any given time, creating a collaborative and hands-on setting. These are first-shift positions with typical hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday shifts run the same hours and are currently mandatory, resulting in an average workweek of 5055 hours, with the expectation that Saturday requirements will ease once staffing levels increase. You will work around heavy equipment and use a variety of tools, including manual brake presses, punch presses, ironworkers, saws, drills, plasma cutters, hand tools, air tools, power tools, and battery tools, while following appropriate safety practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bucyrus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
