Production Manager
Job Description
Position Summary At Simple and Grand, exceptional products begin in the greenhouse. We are looking for a hands-on, organized, and accountable Production Manager to lead our seasonal production operation. This role is responsible for ensuring our products are produced efficiently, accurately, on schedule, and to the quality standards our customers expect from Simple and Grand. The Production Manager leads and coordinates the seasonal production team while overseeing daily production planning, employee scheduling, inventory management, material ordering, product quality, and overall workflow throughout the greenhouse. This is a working leadership position. The right person will be comfortable moving between planning and execution—organizing the day, solving problems, supporting employees, monitoring inventory, inspecting finished products, and stepping into production when needed. Success in this role means having the right people and materials in the right place at the right time while consistently delivering beautiful, high-quality products. What You'll Do Lead, train, organize, and support seasonal Production Team Members. Plan daily and weekly production activities based on customer orders, delivery schedules, inventory, and business priorities. Create and manage employee schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels during changing seasonal production demands. Assign work and coordinate production flow to keep the team productive and on schedule. Monitor production progress throughout the day and adjust staffing or priorities as needed. Maintain accurate inventory of containers, plant material, soil, decorative materials, supplies, and other production inputs. Anticipate inventory needs and place orders early enough to support upcoming production requirements. Work with growers, vendors, and internal team members to ensure materials are available when needed. Help prevent shortages, over-ordering, waste, and unnecessary inventory. Establish and maintain strong inventory organization and control procedures. Inspect plant material, components, work-in-process, and finished products to ensure they meet Simple and Grand quality standards. Identify quality concerns early and take corrective action before products reach customers. Ensure production teams consistently follow approved designs, recipes, specifications, and quality expectations. Coordinate picking, staging, and preparation of completed orders for delivery. Help ensure customer orders are produced accurately and ready according to the delivery schedule. Monitor productivity and identify opportunities to improve production methods, workflow, organization, and efficiency. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional greenhouse and production environment. Ensure equipment, tools, and production areas are properly maintained and ready for use. Promote safe working practices throughout the production operation. Communicate production status, staffing needs, inventory concerns, quality issues, and potential delays to company leadership. Partner closely with growing, logistics, installation, customer service, and other departments to support a smooth operation. Participate directly in production activities when necessary, particularly during peak seasonal periods. Perform other production and greenhouse leadership responsibilities as needed. What We're Looking For Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize, motivate, train, and hold a team accountable. Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced seasonal environment. Strong planning and scheduling skills. Comfortable managing inventory, ordering materials, and anticipating future production needs. Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to product quality. Able to identify problems quickly and make practical decisions to keep production moving. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments. Comfortable using spreadsheets, inventory systems, scheduling tools, and other business software. Willing to be hands-on and work alongside the production team when needed. Comfortable working in greenhouse and outdoor environments with varying temperatures. Able to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday. Able to safely lift 25-50 pounds as needed. Previous experience leading employees in greenhouse, nursery, manufacturing, warehouse, floral, landscaping, agriculture, or another production environment is strongly preferred. Experience with inventory management, purchasing, scheduling, or production planning is preferred. Key Areas of Responsibility People Leadership Build an effective production team by providing clear expectations, training, daily direction, coaching, and accountability. Production Scheduling Ensure customer demand is translated into an organized production plan with appropriate staffing, priorities, and deadlines. Inventory & Ordering Maintain appropriate inventory levels and ensure materials are ordered accurately and early enough to support production without unnecessary excess or shortages. Product Quality Protect the Simple and Grand brand by ensuring every finished product meets established design, workmanship, plant-health, and presentation standards. Operational Efficiency Continuously improve workflow, labor utilization, organization, and production processes while maintaining quality. Cross-Department Coordination Work closely with growing, logistics, installation, and customer service teams so products are completed accurately and ready when customers need them. What Success Looks Like A successful Production Manager creates an operation where: Production stays ahead of customer delivery requirements. Employees understand what needs to be accomplished each day. Staffing levels match production demand. Materials are available when needed. Inventory is accurate and well organized. Product shortages and production delays are minimized. Finished products consistently meet Simple and Grand quality standards. Waste, rework, and production errors are kept low. The greenhouse remains clean, organized, and safe. Other departments can confidently rely on production commitments. The team works with urgency while maintaining a positive and collaborative culture.
