Plant Superintendent Overview We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Plant Superintendent to lead day-to-day plant operations across production, maintenance, inventory, receiving, and shipping. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for translating plant objectives into daily execution while driving safety, quality, productivity, cost control, customer service, and continuous improvement. The Plant Superintendent will provide leadership across multiple departments and shifts and serve as a key member of plant leadership. The ideal candidate is a proactive manufacturing leader who is equally comfortable on the plant floor, developing people, solving operational problems, and using production and financial data to drive results. Reports To Plant Manager Key Responsibilities Safety, Quality & Operational Compliance Champion company policies, safe work practices, PPE requirements, housekeeping standards, and established plant procedures. Maintain strong quality process controls and use production and quality data to identify, correct, and prevent quality incidents, including Division 5 customer RGAs. Maintain and improve plant procedures, work standards, and accountability systems while ensuring expectations are clearly understood and consistently followed. Plant Operations Direct daily operations across Millwork, Vinyl, Maintenance, Inventory, Receiving, and Shipping to achieve safe, efficient production flow and on-time customer shipments. Coordinate production priorities, workloads, staffing, and schedules based on demand, lead times, labor availability, equipment capacity, inventory, and material constraints. Maintain appropriate staffing levels, manage labor costs, and develop cross-training to improve flexibility and operational continuity. Coordinate communication and handoffs across departments and shifts; lead weekly production meetings and adjust priorities as operating conditions change. Respond to operational emergencies and coordinate day-to-day plant activities in the Plant Manager's absence. Performance, Cost & Continuous Improvement Develop and monitor plant KPIs covering safety, quality, productivity, labor, cost, inventory, and on-time delivery. Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly operational and financial performance to identify trends, root causes, corrective actions, and opportunities to reduce cost and improve throughput. Monitor production confirmations and labor variances and maintain accurate BOMs and routings to support reliable production reporting and product costing. Develop a practical understanding of the plant P&L and use operational and financial data to support business decisions. Identify and lead process improvements involving equipment, workflow, automation, staffing, and other opportunities to improve plant performance. Materials, Inventory & Logistics Partner with Materials Management to coordinate production schedules, production orders, inventory requirements, shortages, and material constraints. Oversee inventory performance and drive accurate transactions, cycle counts, variance control, and corrective actions. Coordinate receiving and shipping activities to support production and customer service requirements. Monitor freight performance, maintain truck-line rates, and participate in carrier negotiations and rate reviews to reduce transportation costs while maintaining service levels. Leadership & Administration Lead, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, leads, and team members while reinforcing accountability for results. Complete performance reviews for direct reports and partner with Human Resources on staffing, employee relations, development, and performance matters. Ensure timely completion of required plant operational and performance reporting. Assist the Plant Manager with annual capital planning, capital requests, and supporting cost/benefit justification. Maintain the confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity of plant records and business information. Experience & Qualifications 10+ years of progressive manufacturing or fabrication experience , preferably involving millwork, door components, aluminum, wood, plastics, extrusion, assembly, or comparable manufactured products. 7+ years of manufacturing leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibility. Demonstrated experience leading a manufacturing operation, department, or workforce of 50 or more employees . Proven success managing a fast-paced manufacturing environment involving multiple departments, processes, or shifts. Strong working knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP systems, MRP, production scheduling, inventory management, BOMs, routings, and production reporting . Strong Microsoft Excel and data-analysis skills with the ability to interpret production, labor, efficiency, quality, inventory, freight, and financial information and translate findings into operating improvements. Practical mechanical knowledge of manufacturing equipment, tooling, assembly processes, maintenance requirements, and general plant operations. Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and cross-functional communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop employees, reinforce accountability, and build a results-oriented manufacturing culture. Preferred Qualifications Experience within door, millwork, extrusion, building-products, or related manufacturing operations. Experience with SAP manufacturing and inventory functions. Experience managing KPIs, standard costs, production variances, and continuous improvement initiatives. Experience with capital planning, equipment justification, and implementation of capital projects. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, root-cause analysis, or similar continuous-improvement methodologies. Position Expectations The Plant Superintendent will maintain a strong presence throughout plant operations and serve as a key link between the Plant Manager and departmental leadership. Success requires balancing immediate production demands with long-term improvements in safety, quality, cost, delivery, staffing, equipment reliability, and operational discipline . The Superintendent must be able to identify problems, establish priorities, assign ownership, and ensure corrective actions are carried through to completion. The Plant Superintendent will also coordinate day-to-day plant operations in the Plant Manager's absence and is expected to demonstrate the leadership and judgment necessary to make sound plant-wide operating decisions.
