Full-Time Onsite Ready Mix is seeking an experienced, dependable, and motivated Ready-Mix Plant Manager to join our growing team. The Plant Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the ready-mix concrete plant, including production, quality control, maintenance, inventory, safety, environmental compliance, and employee supervision. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the ready-mix concrete industry , excellent mechanical and troubleshooting skills, strong leadership abilities, and a thorough understanding of concrete production and quality requirements. Key ResponsibilitiesPlant Operations & Production Oversee the daily preparation, operation, production, and shutdown of the ready-mix concrete plant. Ensure concrete is produced accurately, efficiently, and according to approved mix designs and customer specifications. Take and manage orders at the plant level while coordinating with dispatch to meet customer demands and production schedules. Ensure trucks are loaded accurately and efficiently while maintaining proper production flow. Monitor production quantities, material usage, plant efficiency, and operating costs. Maintain accurate production records, tickets, reports, and other required documentation. Work closely with dispatch, drivers, sales, customers, contractors, and operations management to resolve production or delivery issues. Employee Leadership & Management Supervise, direct, train, and develop plant employees and batch personnel. Set clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and professionalism. Provide coaching and counseling and take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary. Conduct regular employee performance reviews. Create a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment. Ensure employees are properly trained in plant operations, equipment use, safety procedures, and company policies. Lead by example and maintain a strong culture of safety and accountability. Concrete Quality Control Ensure all concrete products meet company quality standards and project specifications. Maintain and follow approved concrete mix designs for the facility. Review project specifications and concrete requirements when necessary. Monitor cementitious materials, aggregate proportions, water-cementitious ratios, admixtures, air requirements, slump, strength requirements, and yield. Monitor aggregate moisture and ensure proper moisture and batch-water corrections are made. Review testing results including slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, and compressive strength. Monitor concrete performance and make appropriate production or mix adjustments. Investigate quality concerns including low-strength results, slump loss, air problems, setting time, finishability, pumping performance, yield, and material variability. Coordinate trial batches, laboratory testing, and third-party testing when required. Maintain accurate QC records and supporting documentation. Communicate quality concerns promptly to operations, sales, customers, engineers, testing laboratories, and management as appropriate. Assist with concrete mix design development and mix-design submittals when required. Help maintain the company's master mix-design database and approved mix designs. Support hot-weather and cold-weather concrete procedures. Evaluate material changes, including cement, aggregates, supplementary cementitious materials, fibers, and admixtures, and determine their potential impact on concrete performance. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting Maintain plant equipment in safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition. Perform preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed. Inspect equipment regularly and identify potential mechanical problems before they result in downtime. Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment when possible and coordinate outside repairs when necessary. Maintain mixers, conveyors, bins, gates, scales, pumps, compressors, water systems, admixture systems, and other plant equipment. Ensure trucks and mobile equipment remain in safe and efficient operating condition. Monitor preventative maintenance schedules for plant equipment, vehicles, and other company assets. Maintain adequate supplies of parts, lubricants, fuel, and other materials needed for ongoing operation. Inventory & Materials Management Measure and monitor raw material inventories. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of cement, aggregates, admixtures, fiber, fuel, and other necessary materials. Order materials as needed to ensure uninterrupted plant operations. Monitor material deliveries and verify quantities. Maintain accurate inventory records. Monitor material quality and report issues or inconsistencies. Coordinate with suppliers and management regarding material availability and pricing when appropriate. Safety & Environmental Compliance Maintain a strong safety culture throughout plant operations. Ensure all company safety policies and procedures are followed. Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT, environmental, state, and local requirements. Conduct and participate in safety meetings and training. Identify and correct unsafe conditions and work practices. Ensure employees use required PPE and follow safe operating procedures. Maintain plant housekeeping and ensure the facility remains clean, organized, and safe. Ensure environmental requirements and company environmental policies are followed. Maintain proper records and documentation related to safety and environmental compliance. Immediately report accidents, injuries, equipment damage, spills, or other safety and environmental concerns. Customer Service & Field Support Maintain a high standard of customer service and professionalism. Work directly with customers, contractors, engineers, testing laboratories, and other project personnel when necessary. Respond quickly and professionally to concrete quality or delivery concerns. Visit jobsites when necessary to investigate concrete performance or production issues. Assist sales and operations personnel with special concrete requirements and technical questions. Help resolve problems in the field while protecting company quality and safety standards. Administrative Responsibilities Complete all required plant, production, quality, maintenance, safety, and inventory reports accurately and on time. Maintain accurate records of equipment service and repairs. Maintain required employee and operational documentation. Collect COD payments and tickets when applicable and ensure proper handling and security of company funds. Complete required deposits and reports accurately and on time. Use company computer systems and software for production, inventory, reporting, scheduling, and documentation.
Qualifications Required:
Previous experience in the ready-mix concrete industry . Strong knowledge of ready-mix concrete plant operations and production. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. General knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems. Ability to lead, direct, train, and motivate employees in a positive manner. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. Good understanding of logistics, production, and scheduling. Strong computer skills and ability to learn company software and systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations and under tight deadlines. Valid driver's license. Ability and willingness to travel between plants and jobsites as required.
Preferred:
CDL Class A or B. Ready-mix batch operator experience. Concrete quality-control experience. Experience developing or adjusting concrete mix designs. Experience with concrete mix-design submittals. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification. NRMCA certification or similar concrete industry certification. Experience with DOT concrete specifications and projects. Experience with commercial, structural, industrial, municipal, or windfarm concrete projects. Experience working with third-party testing laboratories and engineering firms. Technical Knowledge The ideal candidate should have working knowledge of: Ready-mix concrete production and batching. Concrete mix proportioning and adjustment. Aggregate moisture corrections.
