A Production Plant Manager directs work and resources needed for a manufacturing production process. Plans and manages production work that meets cost, quality and quantity specifications for a company or project.
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing shift operations, including supervision of production staff, coordination of equipment, and oversight of the production line. This role ensures that production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and cost objectives are consistently achieved while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Lead and coordinate production activities across processing and packaging operations through direct supervision of team leaders and production staff. Plan, organize and prioritize schedules in conjunction with production scheduler to meet output efficiency and customer demand requirements. Utilize knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment capabilities, plant layout and staffing to maximize productivity and throughput. Monitor and ensure production performance meets established standards for labor efficiency, yield and product quality. Troubleshoot and resolve operational, mechanical, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain continuous production flow. Ensure optimal performance, maintenance, and utilization of machinery and equipment. Develop, implement and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices, ensure team compliance through regular observation and coaching. Provide input and collaborate with cross functional teams to establish and maintain process specifications for all products manufactured on the production line Manage and control departmental budgets, including labor, materials, and waste reduction initiatives Partner with Sales, R&D, and customers to support product trials, new product launches, and continuous improvement initiatives Lead and support employee development through coaching, training, performance management, and personnel actions (hiring, promotions, discipline, etc.) Maintain confidentiality regarding employee information, compensation, and management discussions. Ensure adherence to strict food safety and compliance standards, implementing rigorous protocols and procedures to maintain the highest level of quality, safety and food safety in all job functions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing or food production environment preferred
