The Production Supervisor is responsible for the daily leadership, safety, and operational performance of all production activities within the assigned production area(s). This role ensures that production schedules are met, throughput targets are achieved, and all operations are conducted in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The Supervisor directly manages Leads and production staff, oversees employee training, enforces safety protocols, manages labor and payroll accuracy, and reports on key performance metrics. This position reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Scheduler, Maintenance, and Shipping/Receiving teams to ensure seamless execution of the production plan. Functions Managed by this Position Production Staff Supervision & Training Safety Compliance & Employee Engagement Production Schedule Attainment Payroll & Labor Management Throughput & KPI Reporting Quality Control Compliance Primary Responsibilities and Duties 1. Leadership & Staff Development Directly supervises Leads and hourly production staff within the assigned production area(s). Conducts daily start-up meetings to communicate goals, priorities, and safety reminders. Coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff performance; addresses performance issues in collaboration with HR. Oversees onboarding and cross-training to build a flexible, skilled workforce. 2. Safety & Compliance Ensures all assigned production activities comply with company safety programs, Cal/OSHA requirements, FDA/GMP guidelines, and 123SQP priorities (Safety, Quality, Productivity). Conducts regular safety huddles, tailgate meetings, and refresher trainings. Reports, documents, and follows up on safety violations, incidents, and near misses. 3. Production & Schedule Attainment Executes daily production schedules provided by the Scheduler, making real-time adjustments for labor or equipment changes. Assigns and balances workloads to maximize productivity. Monitors schedule adherence and works to minimize downtime and delays. 4. Payroll & Labor Management Reviews and approves employee timecards for accuracy and compliance with labor policies. Monitors and manages overtime in coordination with the Operations Manager. Tracks labor efficiency, reporting deviations and recommending adjustments. 5. Throughput & KPI Reporting Tracks and reports key production metrics such as schedule attainment %, downtime hours, labor productivity, and safety statistics. Investigates and documents root causes for missed targets, implementing corrective and preventive actions. 6. Quality Assurance Ensures adherence to QC requirements and in-process inspection procedures. Verifies batch ticket accuracy, weights, codes, and packaging integrity. Partners with QA to address and resolve quality issues promptly. 7. Continuous Improvement Identifies opportunities to improve processes, equipment performance, and workflow efficiency. Recommends and assists in implementing operational enhancements. Desirable Attributes Strong leadership skills and ownership of results. Comfortable working in a high-noise manufacturing environment.
