Position Summary The Fiberglass Tooling Supervisor is a hands-on working supervisor responsible for leading a team of four tooling fabricators while actively participating in the construction, repair, modification, and maintenance of fiberglass molds, plugs, fixtures, and composite tooling. This role requires a highly skilled composite fabricator who leads by example, ensures projects are completed safely and on schedule, and maintains the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily shop activities, mentoring employees, managing workflow, approving employee timecards through ADP, and working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Human Resources to support manufacturing objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Supervise, coordinate, and provide daily directions to a team of fiberglass tooling fabricators. Assign work based on production priorities, employee skills, and project deadlines. Lead by example by performing hands-on fiberglass tooling fabrication alongside the team. Train, mentor, and develop employees in fabrication techniques, tooling construction, quality standards, and safe work practices. Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback. Conduct daily production meetings and communicate priorities, schedules, and safety expectations. Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement throughout the department. Coordinate staffing needs, cross-training, and workflow to maximize productivity. Payroll & Timekeeping Review, verify, and approve daily employee timecards in ADP. Ensure accurate recording of hours worked, attendance, overtime, and labor coding in accordance with company payroll policies. Resolve timekeeping discrepancies promptly and communicate with employees regarding required corrections. Submit approved time records within established payroll deadlines. Coordinate with Human Resources and Payroll regarding attendance issues, leave requests, and payroll-related questions. Fiberglass Tooling Fabrication Build, modify, repair, and maintain fiberglass molds, plugs, fixtures, patterns, and composite tooling. Perform fiberglass lay-up using polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy, and other composite resin systems. Prepare tooling surfaces through sanding, filling, polishing, waxing, sealing, and application of mold release systems. Perform trimming, grinding, drilling, bonding, assembly, and finishing operations. Inspect tooling throughout fabrication to ensure dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and surface quality. Repair damaged tooling and implement improvements that enhance performance and longevity. Troubleshoot fabrication issues and develop practical solutions to minimize production delays. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD-generated prints, work instructions, and specifications. Production & Quality Ensure tooling projects are completed on schedule while maintaining quality standards. Monitor workmanship and inspect completed tooling for compliance with engineering and quality requirements. Work closely with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing processes. Assist with planning shop workload, scheduling projects, and establishing production priorities. Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Safety & Compliance Maintain compliance with all OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Ensure employees utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Conduct routine safety inspections and reinforce safe work practices. Promote environmental compliance in the handling and disposal of resins, solvents, fiberglass materials, and hazardous waste. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of five (5) years of fiberglass tooling or composite fabrication experience. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Extensive knowledge of fiberglass mold construction, plug fabrication, composite tooling, and repair techniques. Experience working with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience using Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience in marine, aerospace, transportation, or industrial composite manufacturing. Experience with vacuum bagging, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding (RTM), or advanced composite manufacturing processes. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience. OSHA safety training. Forklift and overhead crane certification. Experience using ADP Workforce Now or similar electronic timekeeping and payroll systems is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and team-building skills. Expert knowledge of fiberglass tooling fabrication and repair. Ability to balance supervisory responsibilities with daily hands-on production work. Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Wear required PPE, including respirators, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and protective clothing. Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fiberglass dust, resins, adhesives, solvents, noise, and varying temperatures.
