OD/ID Grind Department Supervisor - Aerospace & Defense -
Direct Hire Location:
Detroit, MI Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM-3:30 PM, with half-day
Saturdays Schedule Flexibility:
Some flexibility is available with start and end times. The Adecco Permanent Recruitment Team has partnered with a well-established aerospace and defense manufacturer in Detroit to identify an experienced OD/ID Grind Department Supervisor to lead its grinding operations. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced machining professional with a strong background in OD/ID grinding and aerospace/defense manufacturing . The ideal candidate will bring extensive grinding experience, strong knowledge of precision machining processes, and the ability to lead a team while maintaining high standards for quality, productivity, safety, and delivery. Key Responsibilities Supervise daily operations within the OD/ID Grinding Department , ensuring production schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements are met. Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to machinists and operators. Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, process sheets, and work instructions. Ensure grinding processes are properly set up and maintained to produce precision components within tight tolerances. Support troubleshooting and resolve machining, tooling, quality, and production issues. Monitor department productivity, efficiency, scrap, rework, and on-time delivery. Assign work, establish priorities, monitor workflow, and ensure appropriate staffing throughout the department. Train, coach, and develop department employees on machining processes, quality requirements, safety procedures, and best practices. Ensure proper use of measuring equipment and inspection techniques. Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve issues and improve processes. Assist with tooling, wheel selection, feeds and speeds, machine settings, and process improvements. Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce scrap and rework, and increase department efficiency. Maintain compliance with aerospace and defense quality requirements and established company procedures. Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support 5S/lean manufacturing activities. Maintain accurate production, quality, and employee documentation. Assist management with departmental planning, performance tracking, and other operational initiatives. Qualifications 15+ years of manufacturing/machining experience , with significant hands-on experience in OD and ID grinding . Previous supervisory, lead, or department leadership experience in a machining environment. Strong experience in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing is required. Strong understanding of precision grinding processes and tight-tolerance machining. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and process documentation. Strong knowledge of grinding wheels, tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, and machine setup. Experience with precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, bore gauges, comparators, and other inspection tools. Strong understanding of quality requirements and the importance of traceability in aerospace/defense manufacturing. Ability to troubleshoot machining and process issues and determine appropriate corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate machinists and operators. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production. High school diploma/GED required; technical education or machining-related training preferred. Preferred Experience Aerospace or defense components High-precision/tight-tolerance grinding

Schedule Monday-Friday:
5:30 AM-3:30
PM Saturday:
Half-day There is some flexibility with the daily schedule for the right candidate, including the ability to start later and work later when operationally appropriate.
Pay Details:
