Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.

Description of Work Please note:

Job postings close at 11:59:59 p.m. the night before the listed Posting End Date above. The WNC Agricultural Center is a self-supporting, multi-use complex that operates 364 days per year. The primary purpose of the facility is to serve the horse/ livestock and trade show industries and meet the needs of both the agricultural and non-agricultural community by providing and maintaining buildings and grounds capable of hosting equine events, trade shows, conventions, seminars, community events, and public expos, as well as carrying out all activities of the annual North Carolina Mountain State Fair. The North Carolina Mountain State Fair serves the agricultural, manufacturing, commercial, educational, governmental, and other agencies across the State and its visitors. This position is to provide management of the administrative functions of the Western NC Agricultural Center Exposition Section, which includes Virginia Boone Meeting Center, Davis Event Center, Expo Building, and the NC Mountain State Fair, and to assume duties of the WNC Agricultural Center Manager in the Manager's absence. This position has the responsibility of overseeing the operating, continuation, expansion, and capital improvement budgets; daily administrative functions include the oversight of sponsorships, purchasing, exposition facility rentals, advertising and promotion, and competitive exhibits; and supervision of administrative staff. $60,881 - $95,000 Knowledge of budget and budgetary management. Ability to manage personnel. Ability to negotiate and prepare contracts Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
