Job Description

Position Summary:
The Shop Fabricator & Production Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for safely leading daily production in the Auger, Fabrication, and Screen Departments. This position plans and assigns work, develops employees, monitors quality and productivity, removes workflow obstacles, and works directly alongside the team when needed. The successful candidate will balance strong fabrication skills with consistent leadership, accountability, and follow-through.
Leadership and Employee Supervision:
 Lead, coach, train, and hold accountable approximately 7-10 employees assigned to the Auger, Fabrication, and Screen Departments.  Set clear daily priorities, assign work based on skills and workload, and confirm that employees understand job expectations before work begins.  Conduct start-of-shift huddles, communicate schedule changes, and coordinate labor between departments to prevent bottlenecks.  Address performance, attendance, quality, safety, and conduct concerns promptly; document issues and coordinate formal action with management.  Cross-train employees, identify skill gaps, and help build dependable department coverage.  Model professional behavior, urgency, teamwork, organization, and pride in workmanship.
Production Planning and Execution:
 Translate production priorities, sales orders, drawings, and due dates into practical daily and weekly work plans.  Track each job through cutting, forming, welding, grinding, assembly, screening, inspection, and completion as applicable.  Monitor labor hours, throughput, work-in-process, job status, and schedule attainment; escalate risks before commitments are missed.  Coordinate with Parts, Sales, Engineering, Service, Equipment Prep, and Installations so materials, drawings, and downstream requirements are ready when needed.  Confirm that completed work is accurately identified, staged, and communicated for the next step in the process.  Recommend process, tooling, layout, and staffing improvements that reduce wasted motion, waiting, rework, and overtime.
Fabrication, Quality, and Technical Support:
 Perform hands-on fabrication, welding, fitting, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting as production needs require.  Read and interpret fabrication drawings, measurements, tolerances, bills of material, and job specifications.  Verify first-piece setup and in-process quality; ensure finished products meet standards before release.  Investigate defects and rework, identify root causes, and implement practical corrective actions.  Ensure machines, welding equipment, tools, fixtures, and material-handling equipment are used correctly and maintained in safe working condition.
Required Qualifications:
 Five or more years of relevant fabrication, welding, assembly, or manufacturing experience; comparable experience may be considered.  At least two years of lead-person or supervisory experience, preferably in a custom or low-volume manufacturing environment.  Strong working knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, fit-up, measuring tools, shop equipment, and blueprint interpretation.  Demonstrated ability to plan work, direct employees, solve problems, enforce standards, and meet production deadlines.  Clear verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency for schedules, job tracking, time entry, and reporting.  Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles or material-handling equipment when authorized.
Preferred Qualifications:
 Experience building or repairing agricultural, industrial, conveying, auger, or screening equipment.  Experience with MIG, TIG and stainless-steel fabrication.  Forklift, overhead crane, welding, first-aid, OSHA, Lean, or related safety/production training.  Experience using production boards, ERP/job-tracking systems, bills of material, or labor-efficiency reporting.
Pay:
$35.00 - $40.00 per hour
