Job Description
A growing Columbus-area asphalt and concrete group is launching a dedicated curb division and is hiring a layout and grade lead to support curb, gutter, barrier curb, straight curb, parking lot, subdivision, and commercial sitework projects. This position is responsible for making sure the curb crew has the correct layout, elevations, offsets, stringline, and grade information before and during production. The right person does not necessarily need to be a curb machine operator, but they must be strong with plans, elevations, layout, and field communication. Responsibilities Include Read plans, details, curb sheets, grading plans, and site drawings. Lay out curb and gutter, barrier curb, islands, parking lot curb, and subdivision curb. Set and maintain stringline for slipform curb production. Check elevations, grades, offsets, transitions, radii, and tie-ins. Work with the curb foreman/operator to keep production moving. Identify layout conflicts before concrete is poured. Coordinate with grading crews, asphalt crews, concrete crews, inspectors, and general contractors. Confirm subgrade and stone elevations are ready for curb installation. Help document field changes, quantity changes, and potential change orders. Assist with daily production tracking and quality control. Experience We Are Looking For Experience with construction layout, grading, curb, asphalt, concrete, excavation, or sitework. Ability to read civil/site plans. Ability to use a laser, level, transit, rover, total station, or other layout equipment. Experience setting stringline is strongly preferred. Understanding of slope, drainage, elevations, offsets, curb transitions, and ADA-related grades. Ability to communicate clearly with operators, laborers, foremen, inspectors, and project managers. Valid driver license preferred. Must be dependable, organized, and detail-oriented. This Is a Good Fit For Someone Who Has worked in sitework, concrete, asphalt, curb, grading, or excavation. Understands layout and elevation control. Likes being the person who keeps the crew lined out correctly. Can think ahead and solve problems before production gets held up.
