RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

Read and interpret mechanical drawings for shipboard HVAC and habitability construction. Layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products using various metals and sizes. Perform habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys, and office outfitting. Ensure Work Authorization Form (WAF) tickets are present and accurate for each job site. Verify that tanks/compartments have an updated safe-for-hot-work ticket and that all requirements (e.g., ventilation, lighting, safety equipment) are met. Confirm that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was issued. Ensure compliance with all safety requirements related to assigned work (e.g., staging, protective equipment, breathing apparatus). Oversee personnel under your direction to ensure safe, productive work practices and maintain quality control. Ensure that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure. Demonstrated experience in sheet metal fabrication and installation. Proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings and layouts. Knowledge of shipboard habitability outfitting and related materials. Experience in shipboard safety procedures and compliance verification. Ability to supervise and maintain safe, productive work environments. Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication tools and equipment (press brake, hand brake, rollers, punch press, drill press, hand tools). Ability to apply basic mathematical skills to fabrication and installation tasks. Knowledge of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and its use. Familiarity with shipboard navigation and compartment designation. Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
