Job Description

Structural Fitter Foreman Job Summary Core Group Resources is hiring an experienced Structural Fitter Foreman to lead steel fitting and fabrication operations on a DOD shipyard project. Youll supervise a crew of structural fitters and make sure assemblies are built to drawings, fitted correctly, and ready for welding, with a constant focus on safety, quality, and production. This role suits a hands-on fitter with shipyard or heavy industrial experience who can lead a crew in a fast-paced production environment and still pick up the tools when the job calls for it. Responsibilities Supervise and direct crews performing structural steel fitting and fabrication. Read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, structural plans, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings. Lay out, fit, align, and install structural components, including plates, angles, beams, brackets, foundations, and stiffeners. Verify dimensions, elevations, alignment, and tolerances before welding. Assign daily work and manpower based on production priorities. Coordinate with welders, QC, project supervision, and other trades so fitted assemblies are ready for welding on schedule. Inspect completed fitting work against drawings, specifications, and DOD and shipyard quality requirements. Identify and correct fit-up, alignment, dimensional, and fabrication issues. Ensure proper use of hand tools, rigging, burning equipment, and other fitting equipment. Track crew productivity and report progress, delays, and material needs to management. Enforce all shipyard and DOD safety requirements and keep work areas clean and organized. Train and mentor fitters and less-experienced crew members. Perform hands-on fitting work when needed to support production. Requirements 5+ years of structural steel fitting and fabrication experience. Ability to lead and manage a crew in a production environment. Strong ability to read blueprints, ship drawings, and welding symbols. Experience with structural layout, fit-up, alignment, and dimensional measurement. Knowledge of welding processes and proper weld preparation. Strong understanding of industrial safety practices. Ability to meet all project and DOD site requirements. Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work overtime as required. Preferred Requirements Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Fitter, or Supervisor overseeing multiple fitters. DOD, naval, or military shipbuilding experience. This is strongly preferred. Marine, offshore, oil and gas, or heavy industrial fabrication experience. Experience working alongside welders and QC inspectors.
