Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Steel Shop Foreman to lead our fabrication and manufacturing operations within the steel shop environment. In this role, you will oversee daily shop activities, coordinate fabrication projects, and ensure that all work meets safety standards, quality expectations, and project deadlines. Your expertise in metal fabrication, welding techniques, blueprint interpretation, and mechanical knowledge will drive efficiency and excellence on the shop floor. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a skilled team in a fast-paced setting dedicated to producing high-quality steel components for diverse construction and manufacturing projects. Responsibilities Supervise daily shop operations, including fabrication, welding, assembly, and material handling activities. Coordinate with project managers and clients to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings ensuring accurate fabrication. Lead and mentor a team of welders, fabricators, and shop personnel to maintain productivity and safety standards. Oversee the use of power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, press brake machines, and rigging equipment to ensure precise metal fabrication. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, OSHA regulations, ASME codes & standards, AWS (American Welding Society) standards, and other industry best practices. Monitor quality control processes by inspecting welds using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and ensuring adherence to specifications such as AWS standards. Manage inventory of metal materials including sheet metal and other raw materials necessary for fabrication projects. Qualifications Proven shop fabrication experience. Extensive knowledge of welding techniques including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and stick welding. Skilled in blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, schematics analysis, and shop math for accurate fabrication. Familiarity with construction processes such as pipe threading, ductwork installation, rigging, machining, soldering, plasma cutting, press brake operation, and assembly. Strong understanding of safety protocols related to metal fabrication shops including proper use of power tools and gas metal arc welding equipment. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
