WHEEL ASSEMBLY
(DRILLING & HUB LACING)

RESPONSIBILITY AND OBJECTIVE
The primary objective of this hybrid role is to lace hubs with spokes to given specifications in the best time possible and to efficiently tighten those spokes on assembled wheels to specified tolerances. The employee is responsible for following all instructions provided by the Team Leader and the Production & Shipping Manager to meet operational goals while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
KEY TASKS

RESPONSIBILITIESHub Lacing & Raw Material Management Verification:
Verify all raw materials, including spokes, hubs, and rims, against work orders.
Component Identification:
Identify spoke types (J-bend, SP, and TH) by touch and measure lengths accurately.
Pattern Recognition:
Correctly identify and execute hub lacing patterns, such as 2-cross versus 3-cross.
Assembly:
Manually assemble components through hand-lacing (including carbon rims) and operate lacing machines to integrate rims and hubs.
Workflow:
Maintain a pace that stays ahead of the lacing machine to ensure consistent production flow.
Machine Drilling & Technical Operations Programming:
Program the drilling machine for new rim types based on size and specifications.
Operations:
Assist with flat drilling and use both analog and digital gauges to monitor quality.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve machine errors or flow interruptions.
Maintenance:
Perform weekly maintenance on drilling stands, including oiling pneumatic air tools and verifying tip sizes.
Tensioning & Quality Control Tensioning:
Apply proper tensions and tolerances specific to each wheel type.
Runouts:
Use gauges to adjust and verify lateral and vertical tolerances.
Dish Alignment:
Ensure the rim is centered over the hub (dish pulling) during the drilling process.
Documentation:
Record daily data, apply serial numbers to hubs and decals, and manage inventory document flow.
Rework:
Identify and fix returns to ensure all outgoing products meet engineering performance standards.
REQUIREMENTS
Professional & Method Skills Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Previous production experience is preferred; prior wheel-building experience is a significant plus.
Precision:
Ability to be thorough, accurate, and understand complex building specifications.
Flow Awareness:
Ability to understand the stages of production and stay on track to meet standard minimum outputs.
Physical & Special Requirements Stamina:
Ability to sit or stand for 8 hours per day.
Strength:
Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
Repetition:
Comfortable performing repetitive, high-precision manual tasks.
Social & Leadership Skills Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with the truing team regarding flow.
Adaptability:
Flexibility to work in multiple areas of the production line as needed.
Problem Solving:
Ability to use sound judgment and constructive approaches to resolve workplace issues.
