Operator Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity in a large, clean, and temperature-controlled manufacturing environment where you will learn and support all floor operations and processes. You will operate and support production equipment, use precision measuring tools, and work closely with operations to prioritize work orders and maintain efficient, high-quality output. Candidates with a manufacturing, trades, or machine operation background who are comfortable working with decimals, blueprints, and measuring tools will be an excellent fit. Responsibilities Learn and perform all floor operations and production processes in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Backfill and support various production roles as necessary to maintain workflow and meet production demands. Interview, hire, and train new team members as required to support operational needs. Determine pay rate settings and recommend or implement pay increases as necessary in alignment with company guidelines. Collaborate with Operations to prioritize work orders and ensure efficient scheduling and throughput. Record labor hours accurately in company software and maintain up-to-date production records. Review and approve time-off requests while ensuring adequate coverage and minimal impact on production. Demonstrate and maintain strong housekeeping standards, including line clearance, with 5S experience considered a plus. Manage the KANBAN system and ensure all team members follow established procedures and material flow processes. Utilize QAD or similar systems to create scrap and efficiency reports for management review and continuous improvement. Process Engineering Change Orders (ECO) as needed to adjust operational run times, setups, and related parameters. Determine and refine work techniques to improve efficiency, quality, and safety. Adhere to and enforce safety guidelines and company attendance policies consistently across the team. Lead by example in all aspects of performance, safety, and conduct, including participation in the discipline process when needed. Use objective evidence and documented facts to support any disciplinary actions. Address and resolve conflicts in a professional and constructive manner. Perform machine operation, assembly, and inspection tasks, including working with microscopes and hand tools as required. Support machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and service activities in collaboration with electrical and mechanical teams. Work with blueprints and schematics to set up, operate, or inspect production processes and medical device components. Maintain cleanroom and medical assembly standards where applicable, especially for medical device and nitinol-related products. Work overtime when needed to support production schedules and customer demands. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support overall operations and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Hands-on manufacturing or trades background, with experience in machine operation, assembly, or general production. Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers. Ability to read and work with decimals accurately in a production environment. Experience with machine operation and general production processes in a manufacturing setting. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Comfort working with inspection tools, including microscopes, for detailed quality checks. Familiarity with KANBAN systems and adherence to established procedures for material and workflow management. Ability to use company software to record labor hours and generate or interpret production-related reports. Capability to process Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to adjust operational run times and setups. Strong understanding of safety guidelines and the ability to consistently enforce safety and attendance policies. Comfort with participating in the discipline process and using objective evidence to support decisions. Effective conflict resolution skills and the ability to lead by example on the production floor. Willingness to work overtime when operational needs require it. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in medical device, medical assembly, or cleanroom environments. background in nitinol, medical, or aerospace-related manufacturing. Exposure to 5S practices and strong housekeeping habits in production areas. Familiarity with QAD or similar ERP systems for scrap and efficiency reporting. Experience with electrical and mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and service of production machinery. Knowledge of hand tools and small equipment used in precision manufacturing. Experience in inspection and quality control using microscopes and other precision instruments. Prior involvement in hiring, training, and onboarding production staff. The environment is clean, safe, and temperature-controlled, with many moving parts and coordinated operations. Production focuses on nitinol-based products and components primarily used in the medical industry, including implants and other high-precision medical devices, as well as applications in aerospace. The facility supports both prototyping and production phases, with strong engineer-to-engineer collaboration and advanced fabrication and finishing capabilities. You can expect to work around cleanroom areas, precision equipment, and modern manufacturing systems, with an emphasis on safety, organization, and consistent operational standards. Overtime may be required based on production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethel, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.40/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
