Job Description

Position Summary The IT Field Technician & Support Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on technical support for a manufacturing facility and its associated office environments. This role serves as the primary on-site resource for endpoint support, basic infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting, and IT project execution. The technician works closely with plant personnel, office staff, engineering teams, and IT administrators from multiple organizations within a joint-venture environment. Success in this position requires strong customer service skills, a solid understanding of desktop support and networking fundamentals, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external IT teams. The technician will support end-user computing devices, printers, network-connected equipment, and auxiliary systems that are critical to daily manufacturing and business operations. Key Responsibilities Endpoint Support & User Services Provide on-site support for desktops, laptops, thin clients, tablets, and peripheral devices. Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot Windows operating systems and business applications. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues affecting end users. Support Microsoft Office, collaboration tools, browsers, security software, and manufacturing-related applications. Deploy, image, and configure endpoint devices according to company standards. Perform hardware replacements and upgrades including memory, storage devices, monitors, docking stations, and accessories. Maintain accurate inventory records for IT assets and equipment. Document support activities, resolutions, and system changes within ticketing systems. Printer & Peripheral Support Troubleshoot network and locally connected printers. Replace consumables and coordinate vendor support when necessary. Configure printer queues and network printer deployments. Support barcode printers, label printers, scanners, and other manufacturing-related peripherals. Network Support Perform basic network troubleshooting involving connectivity, switching, wireless access, DNS, DHCP, and routing issues. Assist with physical installation and maintenance of network equipment including switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and cabling. Understand network topologies and identify potential connectivity issues through systematic troubleshooting. Coordinate with network engineering teams to diagnose and remediate infrastructure issues. Verify physical layer connectivity and perform cable tracing and labeling activities. Server & Infrastructure Support Perform routine server maintenance activities under the guidance of senior administrators. Support operating system patching and maintenance schedules. Monitor infrastructure health and escalate issues when appropriate. Assist with backup verification and basic recovery procedures. Participate in hardware replacements and physical server maintenance within data centers or server rooms. Active Directory & Account Administration Create, modify, disable, and maintain user accounts and security groups. Assist with password resets and account troubleshooting. Maintain organizational unit structures and permissions following established procedures. Support identity and access management processes while adhering to security policies. Security & Compliance Apply operating system and application patches to endpoints and infrastructure systems. Ensure devices comply with security standards and corporate policies. Support antivirus, endpoint protection, and vulnerability remediation initiatives. Assist with security audits and inventory reviews. Projects & Continuous Improvement Participate in IT infrastructure and business technology projects. Support facility expansions, equipment deployments, and workstation relocations. Assist with hardware refresh initiatives and technology rollouts. Contribute ideas for process improvements and operational efficiencies. Perform additional technical duties as assigned. Joint-Venture Collaboration Responsibilities This position operates within a joint-venture environment where multiple organizations share responsibility for systems, infrastructure, and operational technologies.
The successful candidate will:
Collaborate professionally with engineers, administrators, vendors, and support teams from partner organizations. Follow established governance, communication, and escalation processes across multiple companies. Coordinate troubleshooting efforts that involve shared systems and infrastructure. Build strong working relationships with stakeholders from diverse technical backgrounds. Balance local site requirements with corporate and partner-company standards. Demonstrate flexibility and diplomacy while working across organizational boundaries. Required Qualifications Education Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience will be considered. Experience Minimum of 1 year of experience in an IT support, help desk, desktop support, field technician, or related technical role. Experience supporting Windows-based environments preferred. Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or production environments is beneficial but not required. Technical Knowledge Candidates should possess working knowledge of: Microsoft Windows operating systems Desktop and laptop hardware troubleshooting Software installation and support Network printers and peripherals TCP/IP networking fundamentals DNS and DHCP concepts Active Directory administration Endpoint patching and maintenance Microsoft Office applications Ticketing and asset management systems Networking Knowledge Candidates must understand: Basic switching and routing concepts Network cabling standards Physical installation and connectivity of switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points Network troubleshooting methodologies VLAN concepts and network segmentation fundamentals Use of basic networking tools and diagnostics Desired Skills & Certifications Preferred but not required: CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ Microsoft certifications Experience with imaging and endpoint deployment tools Experience with virtualization technologies Familiarity with manufacturing technology environments Key Competencies Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Customer-focused service mindset Excellent verbal and written communication abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Team-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate across organizations Professionalism when interacting with production personnel, engineers, management, and external partners Working Environment Primarily on-site within a manufacturing facility and office environment. Frequent movement throughout production, warehouse, office, and IT infrastructure areas. Occasional lifting and installation of IT equipment up to 50 lbs. Participation in after-hours maintenance, upgrades, or project activities as required. Exposure to manufacturing environments requiring adherence to plant safety procedures and PPE requirements.
