2nd & weekend shift Job Description The Operator Assistant supports production and logistics by operating a sit-down forklift to move materials throughout the plant, keeping production lines stocked, and assisting with loading and unloading trucks for shipping and receiving. This role also helps the roll forming line with offloading parts, packing finished goods, and completing inventory and shipping documentation to ensure efficient and accurate material flow in a busy manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down forklift safely to move formed metal and other materials between the roll forming area, secondary/utility area, warehouse, and shipping docks. Keep production lines stocked with required materials and components to minimize downtime. Load and unload trucks for shipping and receiving, ensuring accurate placement and secure handling of all materials. Bring materials to work cells, remove finished bundles from work cells, move racks, and empty hoppers as needed to support production. Load finished material into the warehouse and onto trucks in accordance with shipping schedules and instructions. Assist the roll line with offloading parts when forklift responsibilities are completed, including helping with line setup and part handling. Help with setup of production lines, including loading and unloading parts from the production line as directed. Use hand tools to load and unload parts safely and efficiently from the production line and workstations. Pack finished goods for shipping, ensuring products are protected, labeled correctly, and prepared according to customer and company requirements. Use computer systems to perform inventory control tasks and accurately document goods shipped and received. Process all required paperwork for shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions, including data entry and documentation. Use RF scanners and related warehouse technology to pick, track, and verify inventory. Support cycle counts and inventory control activities to maintain accurate stock records. Follow work orders and instructions to complete tasks in the correct sequence and to the required specifications. Operate forklifts and, where required, assist with crane operation to move heavy or oversized materials safely. Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and housekeeping standards in an industrial manufacturing environment. Communicate effectively with production, warehouse, and shipping teams to coordinate material movement and resolve issues quickly. Essential Skills Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Prior industrial or manufacturing experience, with familiarity working around production lines and heavy equipment. Shipping and receiving experience, including loading and unloading trucks and handling incoming and outgoing materials. Strong computer skills for inventory control and accurate documentation of goods shipped and received. Ability to process paperwork and perform data entry for shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions. Experience using RF scanners or similar technology for picking and inventory tracking. Knowledge of basic warehouse and material handling practices, including safe lifting and stacking. Ability to read and follow work orders and written instructions. Attention to detail to ensure accurate counts, proper labeling, and correct documentation. Capability to work in a physically active role that involves standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment throughout the shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with warehouse forklifts in a shipping, receiving, or material handling setting. Background in material handling, including loading and unloading machinery and moving racks and bundles. Exposure to crane operation or willingness to learn basic crane operation for material movement. Familiarity with inventory control practices, including cycle counting and stock reconciliation. Comfort working across different areas of the plant, including roll forming and secondary/utility operations. Ability to use hand tools for loading, unloading, and basic adjustments around the production line. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks such as stocking lines, moving materials, and assisting production. Effective communication skills to coordinate with production, warehouse, and shipping teams. Reliability and a strong work ethic suited to a high-activity manufacturing environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility that forms metal from flat-rolled steel in a roll forming department before sending it to a secondary/utility area for bending and cutting. The plant supports production for agricultural equipment, including components for tractors and related machinery. You will work in an industrial environment that can be hot or cold at times, depending on the season and production conditions. The facility is not excessively dirty or unpleasant, but it is a typical industrial setting with active machinery, material movement, and production noise. The culture is laid back and relaxed as long as employees perform their duties safely and effectively. You will spend much of your time on or around forklifts, production lines, and warehouse areas, handling materials, operating equipment, and using computers and RF scanners to support inventory, shipping, and receiving. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelbyville, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
