Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Shipfitter to join our manufacturing and fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and welding metal components to construct ships and marine structures according to detailed blueprints and technical drawings. Your expertise in metal fabrication, welding techniques, and mechanical interpretation will ensure the highest quality standards are met while adhering to safety protocols. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex projects in a dynamic environment where precision and craftsmanship are paramount. Responsibilities Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately assemble ship components. Measure, cut, fit, and weld sheet metal and structural steel using various welding techniques including FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding). Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math skills to ensure precise dimensions and alignment of fabricated parts. Operate power tools, plasma cutters, and machining equipment for cutting, shaping, and assembling metal materials. Fabricate ductwork, structural supports, and other ship components with attention to safety standards and quality control. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety protocols related to construction site activities and welding procedures. Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks, ensuring timely completion of projects while adhering to American Welding Society (AWS) standards. Requirements Proven construction site or fabrication shop experience working with metal materials in a manufacturing or shipbuilding environment. Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and technical drawing analysis.
