Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and motivated Shipfitter/Welder to join our dynamic fabrication and construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, welding, and fabricating metal components with precision and adherence to safety standards. Your expertise will contribute to the successful completion of large-scale projects, ensuring all work meets quality specifications and industry standards. Responsibilities Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately assemble and weld metal components. Perform sheet metal fabrication, cutting, fitting, and assembly using various hand tools and power tools. Execute welding operations including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) in accordance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, and shop math to ensure precise dimensions and fit-up. Operate plasma cutters, gas metal arc welding equipment, and other machining tools for cutting and shaping metal materials. Follow safety protocols rigorously to maintain a safe working environment on construction sites or within fabrication shops. Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks involving ductwork, mechanical fabrication, or metal materials for various construction projects. Qualifications Proven construction site experience with a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes. Skilled in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints accurately. Hands-on experience with welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, and knowledge of AWS standards. Proficiency with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math for precise fabrication work. Familiarity with construction tools including power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, and machining equipment. Mechanical knowledge related to assembly processes and mechanical blueprint interpretation. Ability to work safely following all safety protocols; prior safety training certification is a plus. Experience working with sheet metal fabrication and ductwork is highly desirable. Strong mechanical fabrication skills with an emphasis on quality workmanship in a manufacturing or shop environment.
