The Welder will work collaboratively with others in similar roles to produce highly engineered, custom-built mobile material handling machinery for rail-related markets. The role involves mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic assembly techniques, welding, electrical wiring, and hitching on overhead cranes and jibs.
Responsibilities:
Weld fabricated parts, components, or units at floor stations. Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Use hand and power tools to assemble units according to product specifications. Identify units that fail tests or tolerance levels and repair as necessary. Fabricate small components. Complete production and quality assurance forms. Participate actively in team meetings and group discussions. Interface with engineering to accurately communicate information. Participate in continuous improvement activities or events as required. Adhere to Quality Management System requirements. Follow and maintain 5S activities. Read and follow standard work, BOMs, blueprints, routings, specifications, and other diagrams/instructions. Obtain necessary tools and equipment. Handle materials, tools, and equipment manually or with a jib crane, performing own hitching as required. Maintain high quality standards. Consistently maintain productivity levels as determined by management. Prepare machinery for shipping. Follow all safety and work rules and maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. 3-5+ years of experience in a custom build shop preferred. 2 years of MIG welding experience preferred. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to operate a computer to read and input data. Ability to operate hand tools and read measuring devices. Ability to read and interpret 3D prints and schematics to complete standard work. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management. Ability to hold themselves accountable for results. Safety-minded. Ability to think critically and troubleshoot problems. Desire to win.
Physical Requirements:
Must wear appropriate PPE, including steel-toe boots and safety glasses. Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, bend, work underneath equipment, reach above shoulders, and climb. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work in a typical manufacturing environment with seasonal temperature variations and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products. May be asked to perform other duties outside of their function or trade, with adequate training provided as necessary.
