(brief description of the tasks the applicant will be responsible for) The FM (Foreign Material) Process Support Specialist (PSS) plays a vital role in maintaining food safety standards and ensuring that foreign material prevention controls are executed effectively throughout the bakery production process. This position supports the daily startup, monitoring, and execution of FM- related protocols and ensures the production line is equipped, staffed, and operating according to specifications and company standards. The FM PSS will serve as a lead resource on the floor, supporting team members, working closely with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Operations to minimize downtime, ensure compliance, and contribute to a safe and productive manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of leading by example while ensuring product quality and compliance with all FM-related procedures.Key Responsibilities:
Startup Readiness Conduct thorough line inspections prior to startup to ensure all materials, tools, and equipment are in place and clean. Ensure metal detector, x-ray, checkweigher, and coding equipment are powered on, properly set up, and tested according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).FM Equipment Checks:
Verify the functionality of all FM detection and prevent equipment (e.g., metal detectors, x-ray systems, checkweighers). Perform basic troubleshooting, calibration, and reprogramming as needed in coordination with QA or Maintenance teams. Conduct and document daily verification tests and communicate any non-conformanceCompliance:
Ensure adherence to both Sara Lee Frozen Bakery's internal standards and all relevant regulatory requirements (FDA, Quality Control, etc.) during all production and packaging activities. Support the completion of routine regulatory checks and ensure proper documentation is maintained. Monitor adherence to all food safety and quality regulations to guarantee the production of high-quality, safe products.RedZone & Data Entry:
Monitor RedZone to ensure accurate and timely data is loaded during production. Enter required FM-related documentation and line data (downtime reports, production logs, FM logs) with accuracy and attention to detail.Code Verification & Programming:
Check all packaging and product codes (e.g., Julian codes) prior to startup to ensure accuracy. Program or adjust coding systems as needed and verify that correct codes are maintained during runs.Crew & Line Coordination:
Verify the line has proper crewing for the scheduled product being run. Support communication between team members and management to resolve gaps or delays in labor coverage.Product Specification Adherence:
Known and apply product specifications including weight, size, packaging type, allergen control, and line speed. Monitor production flow and report any deviations or product irregularities to QA and Operations.Paperwork & Documentation:
Complete all required paperwork including crew sheets, FM checklists, equipment verification logs, and downtime reports. Ensure documentation is completed accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner.Cross-Functional Communication:
Serve as a liaison between Production, QA, Maintenance, and Sanitation to resolve issues quickly and effectively. Report potential FM risks or production concerns proactively.Housekeeping & Cleanliness:
Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift. Support end-of-shift cleaning procedures, including sweeping and proper disposal of waste materials.Cross-Functional Communication:
Serve as a liaison between Production, QA, Maintenance, and Sanitation to resolve issues quickly and effectively. Report potential FM risks or production concerns proactively.Additional Duties:
Assist in cross-training initiatives and fill in as needed across other areas of the plant. Perform additional tasks as directed by management in support of food safety, quality, or operational excellence.Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The role requires the ability to work in cold temperatures (down to -10°F) and in a dusty, noisy environment with potential slippery floors. Regular physical activity is required, including the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds consistently throughout a shift. Must be comfortable with climbing ladders and operating forklifts and be willing to work in environments with potential exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and noise levels exceeding 85dBL.Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.Experience:
A minimum of six (6) months of continuous experience leading teams in a manufacturing or production environment.Skills:
Prior experience in food manufacturing is required. Basic computer skills are required to utilize the ERP system for entering and scanning ingredients and quantities. Must be able to effectively communicate with team members at all levels within the plant. Must understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Strong awareness of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety. Excellent attendance and punctuality. Ability to work cooperatively with support groups to minimize downtime and ensure startup readiness. Comfortable with standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be authorized to work legally in the United States. Must successfully pass a background and urinalysis screening as part of the post-offer health assessment.
