Job Overview:
Peerless Umbrella Co., Inc., a growing manufacturing company in Newark, NJ is seeking a reliable and motivated Screen Room Assistant to join the team. This individual would be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and reclaiming screens used in screen printing operations. Supports all screen room functions including screen preparation, coating, imaging support, reclaiming, and screen maintenance. Provides backup support for ink mixing and screen printing operations as needed. During production downtime, assists packaging and fulfillment teams to support on-time shipment of customer orders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare screens for production, including cleaning, degreasing, coating, exposing, and final inspection. Clean, reclaim, and maintain used screens for reuse. Stretch and prepare new and replacement screens. Assist with and provide backup support for Computer-to-Screen (CTS) imaging operations. Assist with and provide backup support for ink mixing activities, following established formulas and procedures. Assist screen print operators with press setup, changeovers, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Replace squeegees, flood bars, and other printing components as required. Maintain organization and inventory of screens, frames, chemicals, inks, and related supplies. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of screen room equipment and work areas. Follow all safety procedures related to inks, chemicals, cleaning agents, and production equipment. Inspect screens for quality, registration accuracy, and production readiness. Support continuous workflow between screen room, ink room, and production departments. Assist packaging, fulfillment, warehouse, or other production departments during downtime or as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required. Strong attention to detail. Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools and production equipment. Ability to follow procedures and maintain consistent quality standards. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to learn screen printing processes, CTS imaging, and ink mixing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Prior screen printing experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Standing and moving throughout an 8+ hour shift. Frequent lifting and carrying of screens, frames, and materials up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced screen printing and production environment. Exposure to inks, cleaning chemicals, reclaiming agents, and production equipment. Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Additional Expectations:
Follows all company safety guidelines and procedures. Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient work environment. Works collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrates flexibility to support operational needs across departments. May be assigned to other duties as necessary.
