Job Description

Position Summary Crystal Metalworks, a division of Crystal Steel Fabricators, has an opening at our Hatfield, PA location for a Production Assistant. This role supports the production team by coordinating administrative and operational tasks related to purchasing, shipping, material control, subcontracting, and yard organization. The Production Assistant works closely with production management, purchasing, shipping personnel, project teams, vendors, and subcontractors to help maintain an organized and efficient flow of materials and information. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable working in both an office and shop or yard environment, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication operation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and send requests for quotations (RFQs) to material suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors. Track outstanding RFQs, follow up with vendors, and organize received quotations for review. Assist the purchasing department with preparing, issuing, tracking, and maintaining purchase orders. Monitor open purchase orders and communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, order status, and anticipated delivery dates. Assist with preparing shipping documents, bills of lading, packing lists, and other required paperwork. Help coordinate and schedule incoming and outgoing deliveries with production personnel, carriers, vendors, and project teams. Maintain shipping records and assist in communicating delivery information and schedule changes. Assist with identifying and labeling raw materials, fabricated items, and finished products. Verify that material labels and piece marks are accurate, legible, and properly attached. Support the organization of the yard and designated material-storage areas. Assist with tracking raw materials, finished goods, and other inventory located throughout the shop and yard. Help conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies with company records. Maintain organized electronic and paper records related to purchasing, shipping, inventory, vendors, and subcontractors. Communicate material shortages, delayed deliveries, inventory discrepancies, and other concerns to the appropriate team members. Enter and update information in company purchasing, production, inventory, and project-management systems as required. Provide general administrative and operational support to production management. Perform other related duties as assigned based on production needs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in production support, purchasing, shipping, inventory control, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, or a related field preferred. Experience in steel fabrication, construction, or an industrial environment is beneficial but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple assignments and follow tasks through to completion. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable communicating professionally with vendors, subcontractors, carriers, and internal departments. Basic understanding of purchase orders, shipping documents, and inventory records preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to learn company purchasing, inventory, and production-management systems. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Valid driver's license preferred. Physical and Work Environment Requirements Work will be performed in office, fabrication-shop, warehouse, and outdoor yard environments. Ability to walk through production and material-storage areas, including uneven outdoor surfaces. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods when assisting with material identification and inventory. Ability to bend, reach, and safely lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to work around active fabrication operations, trucks, forklifts, cranes, and material-handling equipment. Must follow all company safety requirements and wear required personal protective equipment while in production and yard areas.
