Job Description
Hours Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Farm Hand/Laborer to assist with maintenance duties at a private family farm. The ideal candidate is someone who is reliable, hard-working, flexible, kind, and can work well with others. This position requires someone who is comfortable with farm animals including horses, dogs and cats. The ideal candidate will have experience operating and maintaining a wide variety of lawn care, groundskeeping, and farm equipment, along with general property maintenance skills. An ideal farmhand will take pride in their work, be a willing team member, and enjoy being outdoors and around animals. Duties Mowing grass Weed whacking Fixing fences Weeding Clearing brush Clearing storm debris Maintaining paths, trails, and roadside Cutting and stacking wood Stacking hay bales Moving animal feed bags Feeding animals (mostly dogs and cats but occasionally horses) Cleaning animal cages/areas Cleaning stalls and pasture sheds Throwing hay out for horses Cleaning and filling water troughs Operate and maintain a variety of farm machinery with safety and precision Perform manual handling tasks including lifting, stacking, and transporting supplies or equipment across the farm Conduct routine inspections and basic repairs on equipment using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical knowledge Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, storage facilities, and animal enclosures Skills Proven experience in farming or agricultural operations Strong mechanical skills including equipment repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of farm machinery and tools (preferred) Ability to operate farm equipment safely and efficiently, specifically zero-turn mower, walk-behind mower, weed whacker, and chainsaw (preferred) Familiarity with animal husbandry practices for various farm animals including horses (equine), dogs and cats Basic math skills for measurements and record keeping related to farm activities Excellent animal handling skills with a focus on humane treatment Requirements Comfortable around dogs, cats, horses, and children. Able to work independently and complete tasks without oversight Able to work as a team Able to communicate kindly and effectively with co-workers, management, and family Strong attention to detail Ability to manage time effectively Willingness to follow directions Ability to safely lift 40-50lbs Able to stand for long periods of time Ability to perform physically demanding work including stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, walking, and lifting. Able to work in all kinds of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other elements Able to report maintenance issues or animal problems when immediately when noticed Ability to safely perform manual labor in an outdoor farm environment Our family is looking for someone who will be a long-term employee who is committed to working hard, being responsible, and being treated with the kindness and respect that comes along with a small family-oriented working environment.
