Full Job Description Overview:
BAE is looking to hire now! We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Shipfitter to join our manufacturing and fabrication team. The Shipfitter will be responsible for assembling, installing, and repairing ship components and structures with precision and adherence to safety standards. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency in various welding techniques, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints. The ideal candidate will contribute to the safe and efficient construction of maritime vessels, ensuring all work meets industry standards and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to accurately assemble ship components Measure, cut, fit, and weld metal materials using various welding processes including
MIG, TIG, FCAW
(Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) Use hand tools, power tools, calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to ensure precise fabrication and assembly Fabricate sheet metal parts and ductwork according to specifications while adhering to ASME codes & standards Operate machinery such as press brake machines for bending sheet metal components Follow safety protocols diligently to maintain a safe working environment on construction sites and within fabrication shops Assemble structural components using mechanical knowledge and welding skills in accordance with blueprint specifications Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and inspect completed assemblies for quality assurance Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines while upholding high standards of craftsmanship Support machining, soldering, plasma cutting, and other fabrication activities as required Requirements Proven experience in construction site environments or metal fabrication shops with a focus on shipbuilding or heavy industrial projects Proficiency in interpreting mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and ASME codes & standards Skilled in multiple welding techniques including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, ductwork installation, machining processes, and mechanical assembly Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shop math skills for precise fabrication Familiarity with power tools, hand tools, press brake machines, plasma cutters, and other fabrication equipment Mechanical knowledge related to shipbuilding processes and safety protocol adherence Experience reading blueprints, technical drawings, or schematics related to metal structures Basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations during fabrication tasks Knowledge of welding safety practices aligned with industry standards such as AWS (American Welding Society) Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment If you possess the necessary skills and are committed to delivering high-quality craftsmanship in a dynamic setting, we encourage you to apply today.
