Job Description
General Summary Supervises and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in the performance of analytical tests on in-process, product and customer-related samples for the identification, verification and certification of product quality. Understands and ensures compliance with regulatory and customer specifications. Responsible for budgeting, cost control and forecasting of departmental expenses. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for knowing and complying with restricted chemical rules and regulations, and implementing processes to ensure compliance: ISO QMS, Kosher, HALAL, NSF, AWWA, FDA, Homeland Security, and customer specific requirements. Evaluates current test methods against changing regulatory requirements and analytical detection standards and implements modifications as required. Responsible for reviewing and approving ability to meet customer specifications as proposed during contract negotiations with customers. Responsible for authorizing release of final product to the customer and the issuance of accurate and timely certificates of analysis. Oversees the certification of in-process and final product quality. Responsible for communicating in-process and final product conformance to specification to Operations, and coordinating the production, segregation and loading of specials as requested by Corporate to meet customer demand. Assists in the coordination of product loading operations to ensure quality product is properly assigned to customers according to specifications, to minimize short-shipments and to maximize on-time on-grade shipments Represents TCSAP and TCNA quality system integrity to customers. Provides product performance reports to customers, corporate and local management including statistical product compliance analysis, required test measurement and calibration status, customer complaints, corporate - customer correspondence, and resource requirements. Supervises and coordinates daily activities of laboratory personnel and ensures employees are properly trained in all aspects of analysis, documentation and reporting. Evaluates lab personnel performance in relation to standards and makes recommendations accordingly. Ensures the accurate and timely completion of in-house and independent external laboratory analyses of product, raw materials and customer products at corporate, customer or local request. Qualifications Must possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, leadership and supervisory skills along with a thorough understanding and knowledge of chemistry, statistical and analytical test methods and equipment, ASTM, regulatory agency requirements, and laboratory protocols and standards. College level or specific American Society of Quality coursework in statistical analysis desired. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field with 5-7 years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
