Job Description

Position:
Quality Assurance Mechanical Inspector Schedule:
4x10, Monday-Thursday This position is located at the Bayou La Batre , AL facility . Key Responsibilities Understand and operate under the guidelines of Birdon's Quality Management System procedures, work instructions, forms and records, nonconformance logs, corrective action logs, and capture repair/rework costs. Create and maintain associated mechanical related work instructions, training records, and mounting and alignment records and work with engineering, production, and program management to develop effective and efficient corrective action plans, where needed. Conduct bulkhead mounted and deck mounted foundation inspections including the use of temporary and permanent resilient mounts, shock absorbent materials, and noise or vibration insulating devices. Monitor equipment handling and installation activities and conduct pre- and post-torque verification activities. Perform pull tests and/or weight tests of load handling or lifting appliances and deck, bulkhead, and overhead fasteners and fittings. Verify prime mover and machinery shaft alignments, installation, and lubrication checks. Verify vibration, noise, and thermal checks of motors, pumps, and generators. Verify machinery positioning, placards, and labelling. Qualifications and experience High School degree or GED preferred.
AS 9100/ISO 9001
Quality Management System training desired. Certified Mechanic and/or Machinist with 3 to 5 years of experience in the ship/boat building industry. Must be able to read and manipulate drawings/blueprints, material test reports, standards, and customer specifications. Must be able to set up test equipment and write inspection and test reports. Excellent math, skills with the ability to compare design / construction drawing tolerances against as built redlines and notations. Ability to work with a diverse range of teams and people. DOD or DHS scheduling experience within a ship manufacturing environment.
