Job Summary The Construction Materials Testing Senior Technician is responsible for performing advanced testing and inspections of construction materials, supporting junior technicians, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to manage testing processes effectively. Key Responsibilities Advanced Testing Procedures Conduct complex tests on construction materials, including concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregates, ensuring adherence to ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant standards. Interpret test results and evaluate data to ensure compliance with project specifications. Supervision and Training Mentor and train junior technicians in testing methods, safety protocols, and quality control procedures. Provide leadership and support to the team, ensuring efficient workflows and collaboration. Quality Assurance and Compliance Implement and uphold quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of test results. Participate in internal audits and quality assurance programs to identify areas for improvement. Documentation and Reporting Prepare detailed reports summarizing testing procedures, results, and recommendations for clients and project managers. Maintain accurate records of all tests conducted, ensuring data integrity and compliance with laboratory standards. Equipment Management Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment, performing routine calibrations and troubleshooting as necessary. Assist in the procurement and evaluation of new testing equipment and technology. Client Interaction Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders, addressing inquiries and providing insights on test results. Collaborate with engineers and project managers to understand testing requirements and specifications. Safety and Compliance Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all laboratory and field activities. Promote a culture of safety through training and adherence to safety protocols. Continuous Improvement Stay updated on industry trends, new testing methods, and advancements in materials science. Recommend process improvements and innovations to enhance laboratory operations.
Qualifications Education :
Associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, materials science, or a related field; relevant certifications preferred.
Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction materials testing, with a focus on advanced testing techniques.
Certifications :
Relevant certifications (e.g., ACI, NICET, Caltrans) are highly desirable. Skills In-depth knowledge of construction materials testing methods and industry standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficient in information management systems and data analysis software. Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Working Conditions Primarily based in an outdoor setting, with fieldwork required for material sampling and inspections. May involve standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights
