+ Profit Sharing About the Opportunity Weldments Inc. is seeking a technically strong, motivated individual who wants to build a career in manufacturing Quality and ultimately grow into our Quality Manager. We are open to two different backgrounds:

Engineering Path:

A recent or early-career Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Technology graduate, or similar candidate with strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and an interest in manufacturing.

Manufacturing Path:

A machinist, toolmaker, CMM technician, quality technician, or other precision manufacturing professional who has strong technical ability and wants to advance into Quality leadership. We do not expect the right person to know everything on Day 1. We are looking for intelligence, mechanical aptitude, technical fundamentals, computer skills, communication ability, curiosity, and the desire to learn. Weldments will provide hands-on development in dimensional inspection, GD&T, CMM programming, heavy fabrication, welding inspection, quality systems, ISO compliance, corrective action, and eventually support Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Our goal is to develop the right person into the future Quality Manager of Weldments Inc. What You'll DoInspection & Metrology Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on machined components, weldments, and large fabricated assemblies. Verify dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, flatness, squareness, runout, alignment, and other critical characteristics.

Develop strong practical knowledge using:

Micrometers Calipers Height gages Bore gages Indicators Surface measurement equipment CMM equipment Portable metrology equipment Learn to set up, operate, and eventually program CMM equipment. Develop inspection methods for complex and large fabricated components. Learn how fabrication, welding, machining, and distortion affect final part geometry. Prints, GD&T & Technical Requirements Read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications. Apply dimensional tolerances and GD&T requirements. Understand datum structures, positional tolerances, profile tolerances, runout, flatness, and other geometric controls. Interpret machining requirements and welding symbols. Determine appropriate inspection methods based on drawing requirements. Verify completed products against customer and engineering requirements before shipment. Manufacturing & Quality Engineering Work directly with welders, fitters, machinists, engineering, and production leadership. Investigate nonconforming conditions and help determine root cause. Develop practical solutions to prevent recurring quality problems. Participate in corrective actions and continuous improvement. Help improve manufacturing and inspection processes. Use data to identify quality trends and improvement opportunities. Support development of inspection standards, procedures, and work instructions. Quality Decision Making As experience and technical knowledge develop, this position will take increasing ownership of quality decisions.

Responsibilities will include:

Identifying nonconforming products. Communicating rework requirements. Determining when additional inspection is required. Stopping work when customer or drawing requirements are not being met. Working with production to resolve problems without compromising requirements. Developing the confidence and judgment necessary to make objective quality decisions. Quality Systems & Documentation This position goes well beyond simply inspecting parts. Who We're Looking For There are two potential paths into this position. Engineering Path Bachelor's or Associate degree in: Manufacturing Engineering Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology Industrial Engineering Quality Engineering Similar technical discipline Recent graduates and early-career engineers are encouraged to apply. Manufacturing internships, machining coursework, CNC experience, welding experience, robotics, Formula SAE, hands-on fabrication, or other practical manufacturing experience is highly desirable. Manufacturing Path Approximately 2+ years of experience in: Machining Toolmaking CMM / Metrology Dimensional Inspection Manufacturing Quality Precision Manufacturing Similar hands-on manufacturing environment Strong technical education, apprenticeship training, or demonstrated capability may substitute for some experience. What Matters Most Regardless of which path you come from, we are looking for someone who: Has strong mechanical aptitude. Can understand how things are manufactured. Is comfortable reading technical drawings. Has a basic understanding of dimensional tolerances and GD&T. Is comfortable using computers, spreadsheets, email, and digital systems. Is organized and detail-oriented. Learns quickly. Asks good questions. Can solve problems logically. Communicates well with people at different levels of an organization. Can work independently and take ownership. Is willing to make decisions and stand behind them. Wants increasing responsibility and eventually wants to lead. We are less concerned with whether you already know every inspection tool or quality system than we are with whether you have the technical foundation and ability to learn them. Preferred

The Right Person The successful candidate will be someone who is equally comfortable eventually working in two worlds: On the shop floor: talking with machinists, welders and fitters, understanding how something was built, measuring parts, investigating problems, and making quality decisions.

In the office:

analyzing data, communicating with customers, writing corrective actions, maintaining quality systems, working in ERP and Excel, participating in audits, and eventually managing the Quality function. We aren't simply looking for someone to inspect parts. We are looking for someone we can develop into a Quality leader.

Compensation Pay:

$28.00

Expected Hours:

Approximately 45 hours per week.

Overtime:

Typically 4-5 hours per week at 1.5x hourly rate. This is not a repetitive production inspection position.

You will be exposed to:

Heavy steel fabrication Welding Machining Large custom weldments Precision dimensional inspection Overhead cranes Outside processing Customer-specific quality requirements The position requires daily interaction with the manufacturing floor, frequent standing and walking, and occasional lifting of components up to 50 lbs.
