Fayetteville VA Medical Center location: 2300 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301
Duration:
1 year contract with the possibility of extension
Shift Schedule:
24/7 coverage, 28-day 12-hour rotating shifts (days/nights, weekends/holidays included) How many shifts needed per month: 14 twelve-hour shifts per operator per 28-day cycle Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 to 8 weeks
License:
NC High-Pressure Stationary Engineer Certification Class 1 required (state-recognized equivalent accepted). Not open to any-state license.
Certifications:
OSHA 10-Hour Safety, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Water Treatment training (preferred)
Education:
High school diploma/GED with completion of state training.
Experience needed:
Minimum 3 5 years direct, hands-on experience operating high-pressure industrial or commercial steam boiler systems. Special Skills Boiler controls, BMS, feedwater, pumps, compressors, and fuel systems
BMS/SCADA
monitoring, combustion controls, and safety systems Boiler water testing, chemical dosing, and blowdown Ability to read blueprints, P&IDs, and electrical schematics Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined, elevated, hot, and noisy environments Knowledge of
OSHA, NC
boiler codes, and environmental requirements Responsibilities Operate and monitor boilers, feedwater, pumps, compressors, fuel, and water treatment systems. Monitor BMS/SCADA, gauges, combustion indicators, and safety devices; adjust controls as needed. Test boiler/feedwater chemistry, adjust chemical dosing, and perform blowdown. Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs; escalate complex issues. Follow LOTO procedures and prepare equipment for maintenance or inspection. Maintain accurate shift logs for operating conditions, water quality, fuel use, and maintenance. Immediately report safety, equipment, or environmental issues; escalate major incidents within 15 minutes. Respond to alarms and maintain safe, compliant 24/7 plant operations .
