Founded in 1812, the Waterbury Button Company continues to proudly support the US Military and first responders by manufacturing metal button and related products. As a Tool and Die Toolmaker, you will play a crucial role in the production process by fabricating and maintaining precision tools and dies used in the manufacturing of our products. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a passion for craftsmanship and a strong background in toolmaking.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Completion of formal apprenticeship program and/or 5-years of relevant work experience as a Tool Maker required Proficiency in maintenance, setup, and development of new and existing tooling.
Responsibilities:
Tool and Die Fabrication:
Construct and assemble precision tools, dies, and fixtures according to engineering specifications and blueprints. Utilize various machine tools, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment, to shape and form metal parts to required tolerances. Ensure the accuracy and functionality of all tools and dies.
Tool Maintenance and Repair:
Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain existing tools and dies to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Repair or replace damaged components, sharpen cutting edges, and make necessary adjustments to guarantee the efficient operation of all tooling equipment.
Tool Design and Modification:
Collaborate to develop new tooling concepts or modify existing tool designs for enhanced productivity and cost-effectiveness. Provide input on material selection, tooling strategies, and manufacturing processes to optimize tool performance.
Quality Control:
Perform precise measurements and inspections using micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments to verify tool and die accuracy. Identify and address any defects, deviations, or inconsistencies in the manufactured products, and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation and Recordkeeping:
Maintain comprehensive documentation of tooling activities, including tool specifications, modifications, repairs, and maintenance records. Update and organize the tool inventory system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for efficient tool management.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, machinists, and production personnel, to address tooling-related issues and improve overall manufacturing processes. Communicate effectively to convey technical information, provide recommendations, and participate in problem-solving discussions. Hours are 6:00am to 4:30pm Monday-Thursday, with overtime opportunities on Fridays. Excellent benefits. Pay based on experience.
