Summary Alkon Corporation is a leading company in the industry, known for our commitment to quality and excellence in manufacturing. We are seeking a Setup Tech who is responsible for preparing and setting up machining equipment to produce quality components that meet Alkon's production, safety, and quality standards. This position supports machine setup, tooling, part adjustments, machine troubleshooting, and tool replacement to help maintain efficient production and quality. Essential Functions
- Perform a daily pre-shift walk-through to ensure counters are clear, identify machines that have opened up, and look for broken tools or anything out of place.
- Start the air compressor and update the Machine Workbook to reflect machine status and enter daily counts.
- Enter daily efficiency information into the appropriate Operations efficiency archive and communicate results as required.
- Enter broken tool information into the Daily Tool Replacement Log on a weekly basis.
- Replace broken tools as needed, touch off replacement tools, notify Quality, and document replacements in the daily tool replacement log.
- Make adjustments requested by Quality to parts that are currently running.
- Set up new parts as machines open up, including changing tooling and jaws, loading the latest program, running parts, and making tool adjustments as needed.
- Record setup results on the blueprint and submit the part to Quality for approval.
- Diagnose and repair machine alarms or identify the cause of machine issues; contact a supervisor and/or outside maintenance when unable to make the repair.
- Send and receive tools for sharpening as needed and monitor with deburring personnel for tools that require sharpening.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities
- Ability to determine where to set jobs and in what order.
- Ability to pull the appropriate tool sheet and print for the part.
- Ability to identify the tools necessary for a job and select the appropriate toolholder, jaws, or fixture.
- Knowledge of machining tools and applications, including jobber, screw machine, flat bottom, Silver and Deming, taper, parabolic, carbide, end mill, thread mill, form tap, cut tap, inserts, and holders for turning.
- Ability to inspect previously used tools and identify tools that can be sharpened and sent out.
- Ability to use an edge finder or indicator to set part zero and touch tools off on a skimmed part or 1x2x3 block.
- Ability to determine required height offsets for multiple positions and identify the correct program when multiple programs are available.
- Ability to load or call up the correct program on Mitsubishi, Fanuc, and Haas controls.
- Ability to measure parts and make adjustments as necessary.
- Ability to identify causes of tool breakage, such as misload, low coolant, or tool wear.
- Ability to read a program to understand what the machine is going to do when necessary.
- Ability to troubleshoot machine-specific issues, including tool changer and coolant pump issues, and replace and line up vises.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong attention to detail and quality.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times. Hearing protection is required in designated areas and available to all employees. Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift and carry minimum 55 pounds of material throughout the shift
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, including up to 10 hours Hours of Operation Normal business hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm.
