7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., plus mandatory overtime as needed. General Description This position is responsible for creating high quality, on-time, custom prototypes and stock samples to satisfy customer and internal needs. Principle Responsibilities Create custom prototypes and stock samples based on information contained in the model shop packet including; cover worksheet, drawings, Engineering sign off and Sales sign off. Accurately capture the design of the product to meet customer expectations taking the design from concept to prototype. Work cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Tool Room and Fabrication with a sense of urgency to produce high quality on-time prototypes for our customers. Communicate all changes of design by noting the drawings and returning with the order packet to the Model Shop Supervisor for filing. Identify materials needed for the prototype, build temporary jigs and fixtures if needed. Purchase materials if necessary, maintaining budget controls. Track actual materials used and labor hours worked to produce the prototype or sample. Operate tools and machines, including but not limited to; brake press, punch press, drill press, shear, saw, sandblaster, turret, laser and router. • Work with various materials including but not limited to; sheet metal, shelving fixtures, displays, extrusions, LEDs, plastics and wood. Perform set-up and quality checks, complete sign off worksheets to ensure accuracy of work. Package and ship custom prototypes and stock samples securely and on-time to the customer. Prepare for and set-up show booths for trade shows. Maintain show booth equipment and materials. Travel for trade shows and customer installations as needed. Contribute to implementing continuous improvement processes. Maintain a clean and safe work area and maintain equipment in proper condition. Participate in safety trainings and ensure compliance of all Company safety standards. Exemplify a professional work demeanor upholding the Company Core Values. All other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Effective communication skills and the ability to interact with others to foster a positive work environment. Self motivated individual excelling in detail, creativity and problem-solving skills to complete assigned tasks. Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, marked up engineering drawings and sketches as well as verbal instructions. Proficient in metrology and the use of various inspection devices to measure within .015th of an inch. Experience fabricating, welding and programming fabricating machinery. Education and Work Experience High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Experience in manufacturing prototypes and samples with knowledge of fabrication and assembly processes. Certificates & Licenses Valid Drivers' Operator License Computer Skills Ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Excel & Word). Knowledge of Lotus Notes and Mac-Pac software a plus. Knowledge of CAD-based software a plus Physical Demands/Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and to use hands and arms to move parts. The employee is frequently required to walk and is occasionally required to stoop or kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Ear protection is required where designated.Job Type:
