Monday-Friday Position Summary:
Seeking a Tool Maker to join the team at a Tier 1 automotive supplier in Farmington Hills. This is a direct hire opportunity within a union manufacturing facility. The Tool Maker will be responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining tooling including cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, dies, and machinist hand tools to support production operations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lays out, fits, and assembles parts to make and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, dies, or machinists' hand tools.
- Sets up and operates tool room equipment.
- Studies blueprints to determine machining to be done and plans layout and assembly or copies existing parts.
- Produces new tools, parts, and components for machines and equipment.
- Repairs and reworks tools, dies, machine parts, and related components.
- Performs inspections and measurements of parts, tools, and related components as required.
- Performs bench work related to assigned jobs.
- Supplies own basic tools normally used in the trade.
- Performs lubrication, maintenance, and care of tool room equipment.
- May assist General Maintenance or Machine Repair/Rebuild personnel with measuring, fitting, installation, or replacement of parts where toolmaking skills are required.
- Maintains cleanliness of work area and machines.
- Reports unusual difficulties or conditions regarding machines, tools, and equipment to supervision.
- Completes required job or daily job cards.
- Assists with training new hires or apprentices as needed.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2+ years of relevant tool making, tooling, tool repair, or machining experience preferred.
- Experience working on, repairing, maintaining, or modifying existing tooling is highly relevant.
- Hands-on experience operating manual tool room equipment, including: a. Bridgeport b. Lathe c. Surface grinder
- CNC and/or drill press experience is a plus.
- Journeyman's Card preferred OR equivalent experience or technical training.
- Ability to interpret work instructions and follow written and verbal directions.
- Must provide own basic tools/measuring tools.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Good organizational skills
