Tool Room Plastic Injection Mold/Tool Maintenance Repair Technician Position Summary:
Responsible for performing the necessary tasks to support tool room preventative maintenance activities. Perform tool and die tasks which includes activities such as drilling, milling, grinding, and other tasks as assigned. Will cut, shape, finish, and maintain tools made of metal and maintain plastic injection molds.
Essential Functions:
Operate equipment to support tool room activities. Perform tasks including, but not limited to drilling, milling, grinding, and other machine operations Performs polishing activities on dies. Repair dies as needed Performs die PM's Transport dies to and from the tool room and press area as needed Performs die wash operations Operates overhead cranes, forklifts, and die carts Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; creates dies as required to construct new fixtures. Repairs dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds, jigs, tools, and fixtures, then reassembles when repaired. Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine parts. Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or damage that may affect functionality. Regularly tests all equipment, tools, and machines to ensure they are arranged and set properly and working efficiently. Modifies machines to control speed, material feed, or path of cut as required to ensure a quality product is produced within specifications. Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working understanding geometry, trigonometry, and algebra. Thorough understanding of metallic properties. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining. Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machine parts to specifications. Lifts machined parts manually or using hoist, and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable, using devices, such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates. Smooths flat and contoured surfaces, using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders. Fits and assembles parts together into assemblies and mechanisms, using hand tools. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. Heat-treats tools or parts as required. Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to plastic injection molds. May examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding tooling construction and function. May develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product. Ability to work independently, and with engineers. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend squat, stoop, etc. for long periods of time Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Development 5-10 years of experience working in the plastic injection molding industry as a tool maker, die maker, tool fitter. Experience in making fixtures, jigs, dies, machine tools, molds, cutting tools, gauges, and many other manufacturing tools. A minimum of 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining plastic injection molding tooling. Experience setting up plastic injection molding machines. Strong mechanical aptitude.
