POSITION SUMMARY
Thomson Lamination Company (TLC) is seeking a highly experienced Tool & Die Maker to join our Tool Room . We are looking for an accomplished toolmaker with extensive hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and fabricating precision stamping dies . Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification or completion of a recognized apprenticeship is a major plus, but is not required. Candidates with extensive equivalent Tool & Die experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This is not an entry-level position . We are looking for an experienced tradesperson who can diagnose tooling problems, perform precision machining and grinding, and independently execute high-quality die repairs. What You'll Do As a Tool & Die Maker in our Tool Room , you'll work hands-on with the precision stamping dies that support our production operations.
Responsibilities include:
Troubleshoot stamping dies producing nonconforming or out-of-tolerance parts Diagnose tooling failures and determine the appropriate corrective action Repair, maintain, rebuild, and service precision stamping dies Inspect dies for wear, chipped or sheared punches, damaged die sections, and other tooling issues Perform precision surface grinding Perform manual machining using mills, lathes, jig grinders, and related equipment Manufacture replacement punches, die sections, inserts, and other tooling components Perform ID and OD machining as required Fit, assemble, and verify repaired tooling Read and interpret tooling prints, engineering drawings, and GD&T Work to close tolerances using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment Perform preventive maintenance on dies and tooling components Document tooling repairs and maintenance Work with production personnel to identify and correct stamping and tooling problems What We're Looking For Required experience: 5+ years of Tool & Die repair, fabrication, or closely related experience 3-5+ years of surface grinding experience 3-5+ years of manual machining experience , including manual mills and lathes Strong experience troubleshooting and repairing stamping dies Ability to perform close-tolerance precision machining Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment Ability to read and work from detailed tooling and engineering prints Working knowledge of GD&T Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Experience That Will Put You at the Top of Our List Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certificate Completion of a recognized Tool & Die apprenticeship Extensive progressive die or precision stamping die experience Advanced surface grinding experience Jig grinding experience ID/OD machining or grinding experience Haas machining center experience Experience manufacturing replacement punches, die sections, and precision tooling components Experience supporting high-precision stamping operations No Journeyman certificate? If you have extensive hands-on Tool & Die experience but developed your trade through years in the shop rather than a formal journeyman program, we still want to hear from you. If you can look at a stamping die or nonconforming part, determine why the tooling isn't performing correctly, and know how to correct it , we'd like to talk with you.

Describe your experience with high precision machining using manual mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
