Tool Designer
Job Description
Employment Status:
Full-Time Work Site:
Northern Cincy Role Overview Our engineering and manufacturing department is looking for a skilled Tool Designer to join the team. We need someone with practical expertise in creating precision tooling who is highly adept at using Siemens NX. You will partner with our production, manufacturing, and engineering groups to engineer tooling solutions that are both precise and optimized for production. The person in this role will balance technical design proficiency with the ability to communicate and work well with others. We are looking for an individual who bridges the gap between design specifications and the practical realities of the shop floor. Primary Duties Utilize Siemens NX to engineer and build precision dies, fixtures, tooling, and associated manufacturing hardware. Generate comprehensive 3D assemblies, models, and technical 2D manufacturing prints. Analyze customer requirements, GD&T standards, and technical engineering specifications. Ensure that all tooling designs satisfy dimensional, functional, and quality standards to improve overall manufacturing output. Work alongside tool makers, engineers, and machinists to verify that all designs are viable for real-world production. Assess current tooling to suggest enhancements that boost efficiency and manufacturability. Adjust designs based on production needs, inspection outcomes, and feedback from the manufacturing floor. Oversee the lifecycle of tooling projects from initial concept through to final implementation. Identify and resolve design-related challenges to help maintain smooth production workflows. Keep precise engineering records, design revisions, and documentation. Provide clear updates on technical issues and project progress to relevant stakeholders. Contribute to design evaluations by offering technical insights regarding manufacturing methods and tooling concepts. Handle various concurrent projects to ensure all deadlines are met. Required Qualifications Demonstrated background in tool design, ideally within a machining, mold, die, or precision manufacturing setting. High level of competency in Siemens NX for tooling design and 3D modeling. Capacity to generate and decipher complex technical engineering specifications and drawings. Deep knowledge of how various manufacturing techniques influence the design of tooling to ensure better end-product quality. Solid grasp of dimensional tolerancing and GD&T. Background in the design of precision mechanical components, dies, fixtures, or tooling. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to foster strong working relationships with management, engineers, tool makers, and production staff. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the delivery of high-quality, precise designs. Ability to balance independent work with effective team collaboration. Preferred Qualifications Background in designing tooling specifically for Wire EDM or CNC machining. Direct experience collaborating with machinists and tool makers. Experience with close-tolerance, complex tooling projects. Familiarity with grinding, WireEDM, CNC
machining, and other precision production methods. Relevant technical degree, certification, or equivalent practical experience in manufacturing, mechanical design, or tool design. Candidate Profile We are searching for a technically proficient and hands-on Tool Designer who understands the transition from a digital CAD model to a physical component on the shop floor. You must be an expert in Siemens NX, capable of handling intricate designs, and skilled at bridging the communication gap between our manufacturing and engineering teams. Effective communication is vital, as you will need to articulate your design intent, incorporate shop floor feedback, and collaborate to create tooling that is highly efficient and accurate.
