Job Description

About the Role Pinnacle Partners is recruiting for a Toolmaker / Toolmaker II on behalf of a client in Erie, Pennsylvania. We are seeking an experienced precision toolmaker with a strong background in moldmaking, Tool & Die, or a comparable precision tooling environment. This role will focus on building, repairing, maintaining, and supporting high-precision injection molds while utilizing precision grinding, EDM, milling, turning, and inspection equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, repair, maintain, fit, and support high-precision injection molds used primarily for insulator housings and cable overmolding. Perform precision surface grinding, including flat and form grinding. Operate Wire and Sinker EDM equipment to produce precision mold components. Design and build EDM electrodes when capable and coordinate with the CNC team when additional support is required. Utilize manual and support equipment including vertical mills, lathes, and Bridgeport mills as needed. Inspect components and incoming steel using precision measurement and inspection equipment. Work with Quality Assurance to verify components before mold assembly or shipment. Support Toolmaker III associates with final fitting and assembly of complete molds. Review Bills of Materials (BOMs), verify components, and ensure components meet specifications. Understand how individually machined components interact within the finished mold and how dimensional variation can affect mold performance. Troubleshoot machining, fit, tolerance, and mold-related issues. Work closely with Design Engineers, Molding Technicians, Quality Assurance, Toolmaker IIIs, and other members of the engineering and tooling organization. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on precision molds and extrusion tooling as needed.
Requirements:
Strong toolmaking, moldmaking, or highly transferable Tool & Die experience. Experience with precision surface grinding. Strong understanding of holding tight machining tolerances. Experience working directly with molds, mold components, or comparable precision tooling. Working knowledge of EDM, grinding, mills, lathes, or comparable toolroom equipment. Ability to independently use precision measurement and inspection tools, including micrometers and comparable equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how individual precision components function together. Ability to read prints, specifications, and dimensional requirements. Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and sense of urgency. High School Diploma required. Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
Preferred:
5+ years of direct moldmaking experience. Advanced precision surface or form grinding experience. Experience working with tolerances around ±.0001". Wire EDM and Sinker EDM experience. Injection mold experience, particularly with small, highly precise mold components. Experience with EDM electrode design and building. Final mold fitting, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting experience. Journeyman certification in Tool & Die or Moldmaking. Root cause analysis and troubleshooting experience. Experience in medical or similarly high-precision manufacturing and tooling environments. Experience independently leading tooling jobs.
Benefits Overview:
Competitive base pay of approximately $30 per hour, with flexibility based on experience and qualifications. 1st shift with a flexible start time. Approximately 45 hours per week is common, with additional overtime earning potential. Overtime paid at 1.5x. Approximately five weeks of combined vacation and personal time. Paid holidays.
