Water Treatment Service Technician Full-Time Half Moon Bay, CA Field-Based About Water Solutions Inc. Water Solutions Inc. (WSI) is an engineering and consulting firm that has been delivering safe, effective water solutions throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area since 1994.

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and self-directed Water Treatment Service Technician to join our field team. This is not an entry-level position — the ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with drinking water treatment systems and can operate independently from day one with minimal onboarding. You will be the face of WSI in the field, responsible for service, installation, and troubleshooting across a portfolio of residential, commercial, and agricultural clients on the San Francisco Peninsula and surrounding areas. Responsibilities System Service & Installation Service, repair, and maintain drinking water treatment systems including water softeners, carbon filtration systems, reverse osmosis (RO) systems, UV disinfection, iron/manganese filters, and other residential and commercial treatment equipment. Install and commission new treatment systems, including plumbing connections, bypass valves, and system start-up. Install, wire, and start up water pumps and variable frequency drives (VFDs) in compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and generate clear service reports. Diagnose and troubleshoot system failures; repair or replace faulty components efficiently. Technical & Field Operations Read and interpret electrical schematics, instrumentation diagrams, and plumbing plans. Perform basic water quality testing and interpret results to guide treatment decisions. Maintain accurate service records, parts logs, and job documentation. Manage daily and weekly service schedules based on customer priorities and urgency. Respond promptly to service calls; communicate estimated arrival times and job status clearly. Customer & Business Development Provide professional, courteous service and build trusted relationships with WSI clients. Identify service upgrade or expansion opportunities and communicate leads to the team. When not in the field, contribute to operations: parts ordering, proposal input, service scheduling, and identifying new service opportunities. Required Qualifications Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience servicing residential or commercial water treatment systems, including water softeners, carbon filters, and reverse osmosis systems.
Demonstrated plumbing skills:
copper, PVC, HDPE, and related fittings; ability to run and modify water lines and install bypass assemblies. Experience installing and wiring pumps and variable frequency drives (VFDs). Working knowledge of electrical systems, including both power and instrumentation/control circuits. Ability to work independently, prioritize field assignments, and self-manage a daily schedule. Strong communication and customer service skills; comfortable working directly with homeowners, property managers, and agricultural clients. Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform physical field work in varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications & Certifications The following certifications and experience are not required but are strongly preferred and will be weighted heavily in our evaluation: Industry & Technical Credentials WQA Certified Water Specialist (CWS-II or higher preferred). Plumber's license or journeyman plumber certification is a plus (California C-36 or equivalent) Electrical certification or experience is a plus (C-10 license or journeyman electrician hours) Experience with submersible, booster, and VFD-controlled pump stations Experience with SCADA for water systems is a plus. Additional Pluses Experience with agricultural or irrigation well systems Familiarity with California drinking water regulations (Title 22, DDW requirements) Experience using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) for service documentation Compensation & Benefits Hourly wage: $45-$60/hr DOE (depending on experience and certifications) Group health care insurance Paid time off (PTO) Retirement contributions Opportunities for professional development, continuing education, and advancement Flexible scheduling in coordination with team needs and client urgency
