$49,747-$92,580/year, DOQ/DOE (based on level hired) About the Role The City of Central is hiring a Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our Utilities team. This position operates and maintains our water treatment plant and distribution system. Everything from water quality sampling and SCADA monitoring to pump, valve, and hydrant maintenance. You'll play a direct role in keeping safe, compliant drinking water flowing to our community. We hire at four levels (Operator I through IV) based on experience and certifications, with room to grow as you earn higher-level licenses. What You'll Do Operate and monitor the water treatment plant and distribution systems Collect and analyze water samples to ensure state and federal compliance Maintain pumps, valves, hydrants, meters, and related infrastructure Respond to customer inquiries and system emergencies, including on-call rotation Maintain accurate operational records and required regulatory reporting Support snow removal and other emergency response as needed What You'll Need High school diploma or GED Valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record Ability to obtain a CDOT Flagger Certification (within 1 year) and Confined Space Certification (within 6 months) Water Operator and Distribution licenses appropriate to level (Class D-A Water Operator / Class 1-4 Distribution); we'll help you work toward the right level Comfort with physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions Prior water utility experience preferred, not required Good to Know On-call rotation required; overtime availability expected Work involves exposure to chemicals, noise, and varied physical demands (climbing, lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally, etc.) Six-month probationary period The City of Central is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
