Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee City of Graceville - Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWT)
Starting Pay:
$17.25 per hour | Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week The City of Graceville is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join our Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee. No previous wastewater experience is required. This position provides an opportunity to enter a skilled career in the water and wastewater industry while gaining hands-on experience and working toward Florida wastewater and drinking water operator certifications. Work Schedule The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant operates 7 days per week from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Full-time, 40 hours per week Shifts rotate every 8 weeks Schedule includes one 16-hour shift, allowing for three days off Nights, weekends, and holidays are required Applicants must be able to work the assigned rotating schedule Duties & Responsibilities Learn the biological, chemical, and physical processes involved in wastewater treatment Learn how to operate and monitor Advanced Wastewater Treatment processes Monitor equipment and treatment processes to maintain proper plant operation Collect samples and assist with routine testing Maintain accurate operational logs and records Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance Assist with troubleshooting and repairing pumps, motors, valves, controls, and other plant equipment Learn and assist with electrical and mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting Respond to plant alarms and operational problems Maintain a clean and safe working environment and follow established safety procedures Work cooperatively with other operators and City employees Perform other related duties as assigned Certification & Training Requirements This is a trainee position. The employee will be expected to complete the education and testing necessary to become a certified operator.
Wastewater:
Complete required wastewater treatment coursework and pass the applicable Florida state wastewater operator certification examination within one year of employment
Drinking Water:
Complete required drinking water treatment coursework and pass the applicable Florida state drinking water operator certification examination by the end of the following year. Demonstrate a continued willingness and ability to learn treatment processes, equipment operation, electrical and mechanical systems, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to successfully complete required background screening Must be dependable and willing to learn Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts Must be able to work effectively in a team environment Must be willing to perform both operational and mechanical duties Ability to perform the physical duties associated with treatment plant operations No previous wastewater or drinking water experience required Pay & Benefits Starting Pay $17.25 per hour Employer-paid health insurance Florida Retirement System (FRS) Paid sick leave 14 paid holidays per year 1 floating holiday per year 2 weeks of paid vacation after one year of service Life insurance Build a Career in Water & Wastewater This position is designed for someone interested in developing a skilled career.
