Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic team as a Water Utility Technician and play a vital role in maintaining and operating water and wastewater treatment systems. In this energetic position, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of clean water to our community. Your work will involve inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of equipment and infrastructure, supporting environmental compliance, and contributing to public health initiatives. This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop technical skills while making a tangible difference in community well-being. Duties Operate and monitor water treatment and wastewater treatment systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS), to ensure optimal performance. Conduct routine inspections of pumps, valves, tanks, and mechanical equipment; perform necessary repairs or maintenance to prevent system failures. Collect data on water quality parameters, system performance metrics, and operational logs for analysis and reporting purposes. Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, midsize dump truck or hauling trailers for construction or maintenance projects involving water infrastructure. Perform plumbing tasks related to system repairs or upgrades, ensuring all connections meet safety standards. Assist in the construction of new water or sewer lines, including trenching, pipe installation, and backfilling efforts. Engage in heavy lifting and physical tasks required for equipment installation or replacement projects. Troubleshoot issues with mechanical components using analysis skills; utilize basic math for measurements and calculations during repairs. Maintain safety protocols during all operations; perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery to ensure longevity and safety compliance. Ability to work with the public for customer service issues and installations. Experience Prior experience working with water treatment or wastewater treatment facilities is highly desirable but not required. Mechanical knowledge related to pumps, valves, motors, and control systems is essential but will train the right person. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS) used in industrial automation enhances performance in this role. Hands-on experience operating equipment such as vac trailers or excavation machinery is a plus. Strong data collection skills for monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues effectively. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while adhering to safety standards; physical stamina is important. Basic math skills for calculations related to measurements, flow rates, chemical dosing, or system adjustments are necessary.
