SUMMARY OF WORK

Under general supervision, operates, monitors, and maintains county wastewater treatment facilities, collection systems, and related equipment to ensure safe and effective treatment of sewage and wastewater inpliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Work involves mechanical, technical, and field duties that require sound judgment, problem-solving, and ability to respond to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates, monitors, and adjusts wastewater treatment processes, lift stations, and collection systems.
• Collects wastewater and sludge samples, conducts standard laboratory tests, and records results to ensure regulatorypliance.
• Inspects, maintains, and repairs pumps, motors, blowers, valves, and related mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Responds to sewer system locate requests and accurately marks sewer infrastructure to ensure the protection of collection system
• Reads meters, gauges, charts, and SCADA systems to ensure optimal plant operations.
• Handles, stores, and applies treatment chemicals in accordance with safety and environmental standards.
• Responds to alarms, equipment malfunctions, and sewer backups; participates in emergency call-outs.
• Performs preventative maintenance and maintains accurate logs, reports, and work orders.
• Ensures facilities and grounds are kept safe, clean, and in working order.
• Flexible hours, on-call, and weekend shifts may be required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor but may be required to lead projects and delegate tasks to other team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduation or its equivalent PLUS
• Two (2) years of demonstrable experience in wastewater operations, utilities, or a closely related field; OR any equivalentbination of education, training, and experience.
• Possession of a valid Montana Driver's License.
• Possession of (or ability to obtain within one year of hire) a Montana Class 3C or higher Wastewater Operator Certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. (greater with assistance) and occasionally moving up to 100 lbs.
• Work performed indoors and outdoors in variable and sometimes adverse conditions including rain, snow, heat, cold, odors, and exposure to chemicals.
• Must be able to interpret technical manuals, safety data sheets, and process drawings.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions, work independently, and respond to emergency situations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Montana Driver's License.
