Job Description

Position Summary The Village of Fort Ann is seeking a qualified and motivated Department of Public Works (DPW) Supervisor to serve as the primary operator and maintenance professional responsible for the Village's water, wastewater, and public works infrastructure. This is a hands-on working supervisor position. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the Village's water treatment system, wastewater treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, streets, buildings, equipment, and other public infrastructure. While the position includes oversight of per diem personnel and employees when assigned, the primary responsibility is the direct performance of public works, water treatment, and wastewater treatment duties. The DPW Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing water and wastewater operations, maintaining required certifications, completing operational records and reports, responding to emergencies, and helping ensure the safe and efficient operation of Village services. Minimum Qualifications Possess a valid New York State Driver's License. Hold a current New York State Water Treatment Operator Certification, Grade C. Hold a current New York State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification, Grade 2A. Candidates possessing one certification and able to obtain the second within a specified timeframe may be considered. High school diploma or GED required. Experience in public works, water treatment, wastewater treatment, utilities, construction, or municipal operations. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the DPW. Plan and execute work related to streets, sidewalks, parks, buildings, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems. Operate, maintain, and oversee Village water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities. Ensure compliance with New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and all applicable regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate operational records, reports, sampling data, and regulatory submissions. Prepare and coordinate emergency response activities. Oversee maintenance and repair of Village vehicles, equipment, and facilities. Assist in budget preparation and monitor departmental expenditures. Respond to after-hours emergencies, including water main breaks, sewer issues, storms, and other public works emergencies. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, regulatory agencies, and Village officials. Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of water treatment and wastewater treatment operations. Knowledge of public works maintenance practices and equipment. Ability to supervise, train, and motivate employees. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, Village officials, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions. Physical Requirements Ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate heavy equipment, tools, and municipal vehicles. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $59,459.00 - $62,634.00 and will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and certifications.
