Job Description

South Londonderry Township is seeking a skilled, motivated, and dependable Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our Wastewater Treatment Facilities Department. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Township's wastewater treatment system. The successful candidate will perform a variety of operational, maintenance, and supervisory responsibilities while helping maintain regulatory compliance and reliable service for Township residents. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate and maintain the Township's wastewater treatment plant and related facilities. Monitor treatment processes and make operational adjustments as necessary. Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain pumps, motors, valves, controls, and treatment equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on wastewater equipment, vehicles, and machinery. Assist with the maintenance and repair of the sanitary sewer collection system. Perform all duties associated with the Wastewater Laborer position as needed. Serve as a work leader by directing and assisting other employees during daily operations and special projects. Assist in maintaining accurate operational records and documentation. Respond to emergency situations involving the wastewater collection and treatment systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Leadership Responsibilities This position serves as a lead operator within the department and is expected to: Provide guidance and direction to assigned personnel. Assist with scheduling and work assignments when necessary. Maintain safe work practices and ensure compliance with Township policies. Assume responsibility for overall plant operations during the absence of the Wastewater Treatment Facilities Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must possess:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years of wastewater treatment experience.
Pennsylvania Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification:
Class C, Subclass 1 & 4 (or higher). Valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, equipment, and maintenance practices. Ability to lead and work effectively with other employees. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements. OR Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements within one (1) year of hire. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Perform physically demanding work both indoors and outdoors. Lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Climb ladders, stairs, and structures. Enter confined spaces (in accordance with safety procedures). Bend, kneel, crawl, and work in varying weather conditions. Operate hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and maintenance vehicles safely. Residency Requirement Employees must reside within 15 miles of the South Londonderry Township Municipal Office within the timeframe established by Township policy.
