Job Description

GENERAL PUPOSE OF THIS POSITION
Under direction, assist in the maintenance of Streets, Waste Water Collection, Waste Water Plant Operation, Water Distribution, Solid Waste, Parks, Pool, and Cemetery.
SCOPE OF THIS POSITION
This hands-on position will work under the direction of the Public Works Superintendent, Mayor, and City Council This position will also require some supervision to seasonal employees, engineers, and contractors to ensure the City of Alcester is maintained in a fluent and positive way.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a safe work environment Promote Teamwork, Communication, and positive thinking between employees Assist in operating Water Treatment Plant and Water Distribution System Assist in collecting sample Assist in Daily inspections of Plant Operations Assist Reading Water Meters Monthly Assist with locate underground utilities for One Call locates Keep all city owned building and property secure(locked), organized, and clean Assist in
Maintaining Drying Beds and Solid Waste Site:
Mowing, trimming, fence and gate repair, push up wood and concrete pile, burn wood pile when weather permits, rotate compost pile, remove dried waste from drying beds Assist in keeping storm water inlets clean of debris Assist with street repairs and maintenance: Snow Alerts, Snow Removal, Sanding, Sweeping, Patching, Chip Sealing, Line Striping, Weed Control, Assist with Park Maintenance, Mowing, Swimming Pool, Golf Course, Finance Office, and Cemetery Assist in Maintaining the City Shop•Clean, Organized, Mowed & Trimmed Assist in Maintaining City Equipment•Perform routine Maintenance, Clean the Vehicles, Maintain No Smoking, Keep Mayor & Council Members informed before (when possible) & during (when possible) of major repairs Assist in Supervising and Documenting repairs done by outside contractors Any other duties as assigned by the Council Perform the Duties of the Superintendent when he/she is not available
KNOWLEDGE
State of South Dakota Water & Wastewater Certifications Strong Plumbing Knowledge Operate heavy equipment
SKILLS:
Operate & Maintain Water & Wastewater Equipment Operate & Maintain Snow Removal Equipment Operate & Maintain Loaders, Skid loaders, Street Sweepers, and Trucks

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS
Have or able to obtain: Class B CDL with Air Brakes•must obtain within 1 year of date of hire South Dakota Waste Water Treatment Certification I & II South Dakota Waste Water Collection Certification I South Dakota Water Distribution Certification I South Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certificates
G,4,7 FUTURE GOALS
Attend 15 hours continuing education classes for Wastewater Certification Credits every 3 years Keep sewer plant organized and functioning properly Continually work on ways to improve the City of Alcester and its public works
