Under direction of the Public Works Director / Public Works Supervisor, the Surface Water / Wastewater Plant Operator manages treatment systems and equipment to purify raw water from rivers or reservoirs into safe drinking water. Responsibilities include monitoring computerized control panels, adjusting chemical feeds, conducting laboratory tests, and performing plant maintenance to meet state and federal health standards, as well as requires operation of the wastewater treatment facility daily plant inspections, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance monitoring. Other duties include all aspects of operation of the water and wastewater treatment plants, as well as assisting in addressing concerns of employees and citizens, presenting department information to City officials, administration and citizens when directed, relaying information to department employees, and completing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Drives City of Blanco vehicles to perform daily tasks. Operate, use and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment safely and properly, drive safely under adverse conditions (e.g., rain, snow, sleet, ice, dark etc.). Operate motor vehicle and City equipment safely for extended periods of time and safely work in congested traffic areas in and out of City vehicle. Fuel all vehicles as needed before going off duty. Must maintain a driving record that meets the City of Blanco s standards; Ensures routine rounds and checks at the various water and waste water facilities are accomplished. Complete tasks as determined by those in supervisory positions within the City. Must possess the ability to read and follow guidelines, policies, directives, manuals and standard operating procedures. Carries out duties in compliance with appropriate City ordinances, State and Federal laws, and all written directives of the City of Blanco; Responsible for completing training on tools, equipment, and machinery required for use by the Department and conducted and documented. Shall have full knowledge of OSHA safety standards and guidelines and TxDOT road guidelines; Determines the best approach to resolve problems and complete jobs. Aids the Director in ordering supplies and tools for the Department as needed. Performs daily process control tasks such as sampling, adjusting chemical feeds, monitoring flow and laboratory testing. Oversees the monitoring of the data from the SCADA system, gauges, instrument panels and computerized control systems to make process changes as directed or required. Ensures preventive/corrective maintenance on water/waste water treatment plan equipment and facilities. Recognize the need for supervisory intervention and seek assistance when needed. Keep supervisors informed of relevant activity in the City of Blanco. constructive advice and direction to employees. Coordinates employee issues and concerns with the Director and/or City Administrator in the Supervisor s absence;
