Job Responsibilities & Requirements
POSITION SUMMARY
The Welder/Fitter performs fitting, fabrication, assembly, and welding operations in a production environment. This position reads and interprets engineered drawings, layouts and fits components, prepares materials for assembly, and performs ARC and MIG welding to manufacture quality products. The Welder/Fitter ensures components are properly aligned, fitted, and welded in accordance with engineering specifications, quality requirements, and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Possess all tools required to perform essential duties and responsibilities. Read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications. Measure, mark, and verify dimensions using appropriate measuring equipment. Perform layout, fit-up, alignment, and assembly of fabricated components. Set up and operate welding equipment, ensuring proper machine settings for weld penetration and appearance. Select electrodes, welding wire, tips, rods, and consumables appropriate for the work being performed. Position, clamp, and tack weld parts to secure proper alignment before final welding. Turn regulator valves and adjust gas mixtures and pressures to obtain desired cutting and welding characteristics. Guide electrodes or welding guns along weld lines, maintaining proper arc length, travel speed, and weld quality. Weld flat, cylindrical, structural, or irregular components according to specifications. Examine welds and assemblies for bead size, dimensional accuracy, fit, and quality requirements. Repair defective welds and perform rework as needed. Operate grinders and other fabrication tools to prepare and finish welded assemblies. Identify and report material, drawing, fit-up, or quality discrepancies. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain regular attendance and work overtime as required to support production demands.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED):
Required Experience:
One to three years of welding, fitting, fabrication, manufacturing, or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience reading blueprints and performing fit-up of fabricated assemblies is preferred.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills.
Other Requirements:
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Abiity to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables i situations wher eonly limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
