GLO Resources is hiring a Combo Welder/Fitter for a barge repair facility in LaPlace, LA. The pay range is between $24-$26/hr. experience-dependent. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, starting at 7:00 AM, 8-10 hour days, and weekend work is often available.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will have experience in stick welding and fitting in ship or barge repair. The Combo Welder/Fitter will perform welding and metal fabrication tasks, read and interpret blueprints, operate welding equipment safely, and ensure all work meets company quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform stick welding and fitting for barge repair projects. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, cleaning, and fitting metal components. Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, including SMAW (stick). Position and secure workpieces using jigs, clamps, fixtures, and hand tools. Tack weld components to ensure proper alignment before final welding. Inspect completed welds for defects and ensure structural integrity. Perform repairs on cracked or damaged metal components. Remove slag and clean weld joints using appropriate tools. Monitor welding equipment and maintain proper welding parameters. Maintain welding equipment and perform basic preventive maintenance. Follow all safety procedures and company protocols. Keep work areas clean and organized. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Welding certification from an accredited institution is preferred. Minimum 2 years of welding and fitting experience (barge or shipyard experience preferred). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics. Ability to pass a 3G/4G welding test. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves regular physical activity, including: Standing for prolonged periods. Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching. Pushing and pulling heavy objects. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
